Artists and animators rejoice! Nintendo have confirmed a free download release for Flipnote Studio 3D on 3DS this summer.
The popular Nintendo DSi app has been confirmed for a visual upgrade by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata in a brief Nintendo Direct presentation today. Alongside the ability to render animations in 3D using a series of layers, the new app will allow you to save creations as GIF images of AVI video files to share with friends.
Nintendo also confirmed that six colours will be included in the updated 3DS version.
The existing Flip Note Henata is also getting an ugprade, shifting to the 3DS platform after May 31st. Those who are using Henata at the moment on DSi will not be able to access the service after this date.
Flipnote Studio 3D will also come with two different ways of sharing animations - a "Friend Flipnote Gallery" for exchanging creations with registered 3DS pals, and a paid "World Flipnote Gallery" service which requires a monthly fee to access.
It'll be free for a month and selected "free days", according to Iwata. The reason for subscription is to help pay for server resources and to keep it running, it seems.
Will you download and share your animations with Flipnote Studio 3D? What are your thoughts on the paid community access?
