Curious as to what Nintendo will do with Wii U NFC technology? Shigeru Miyamoto and his team are working on software to be revealed this year.
When Nintendo first revealed the Wii U the possibility to import data using near field communication (NFC) was highlighted but still remains tucked away unused inside the hardware. Since the console launched, we've had rumblings of what's to come yet the technology still remains dormant in any of the console's available games.
NFC allows objects like action figures or cards to be used in tandem with the GamePad, exchanging data into games like in Skylanders or the upcoming Disney Infinity.
The House of Mario isn't neglecting these bonus features, and speaking to Polygon Nintendo designer Miyamoto confirmed that NFC is "what we're putting our priorities right now. We're hoping that in the near future we'll be able to show you something that will take advantage of the NFC on Wii U and people will be able to enjoy that."
He also highlighted that Nintendo are working on software that supports dual GamePads running at the same time.
