Zelda: The Wind Waker, Wii Sports Nominated for Video Game of the Decade on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo games have been nominated for the Spike TV game of the decade award for pushing the medium forward in the last ten years.

In a week's time Samuel L Jackson will be hosting the 10th annual Video Game Awards and to celebrate the milestone will be exploring the new trends we've experienced this generation - from motion play to social gaming, the impact of Hollywood storytelling in a once simpler medium.

Entertainment Weekly has had a tricky task putting together just ten games to be considered for the award - it's down to you to pick your favourite.

There are two Nintendo games on the list - The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Wii Sports.

Other contenders include Half-Life 2, Shadow of the Colossus, World of Warcraft and Mass Effect 2.

Which of the games would you be voting for and which is truly worthy of the title? Will Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma's adventures on the seas with The Wind Waker get your vote?

I've marked out the ones, I've really enjoyed from that list and given a better alternative in my eyes.

Skyward Sword > Windwaker

Metroid Prime > Arkham City

Silent Hill Shattered Memories > Bioshock

Journey > Shadow of the Colossus

Fallout New Vegas > Fallout 3 > Mass Effect and Mass Effect 3 > Mass Effect

Would love to know how they came to that final list, since there are plenty others that could easily have gone in there.

Guessing there was a period of time where you could submit your own nominations, then they just shortlisted the most popular ones. That does come across as weird though, as i know a lot of people who like wii sports but don't know anyone who'd say its their favourite game of the last 10 years.

I would have added Super Mario Galaxy to the list. My personal favorite game of all time.

I would guess it has more to do with it being a milestone for motion controlled gaming. It certainly set the bar for how motion games should function. The category just seems crazy broad and there's many reasons why any of those games could be in the list, and most of those reason are really subjective.

This. Definitely one of the most enjoyable, groundbreaking games I've played this generation. FOR SURE. Tis a shame it didn't make the cut. I've voted Wind Waker. Tis a grand game, but I think Galaxy should have been there in its place.

These nominations are certainly weird. I would have thought that either Galaxy or Galaxy 2 would be nominated in place of a Zelda game but I guess The Wind Waker will get my vote then.

arg, style over substance.

BG&&E was wayyyyyy more fun, or if you want something with style go for Okami.

TWW was good game but it only really  innovated in graphics. It didnt push the medium forward in any other way. At least Galaxy had spherical physics.

Surely Portal has to win this? Innovation in physics,story,humour.....just about every area.
