Nintendo Rewards Dedicated New Super Mario Bros. 2 Players with Free Classic DLC on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

To reward players for racking up a very, very large number of coins in New Super Mario Bros 2, Nintendo have released classic DLC.

In a surprise, short and sweet Nintendo Direct presentation earlier today, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata expressed gratitude to a legion of Super Mario fans who, together have collected over 300 billion coins in the game.

The DLC, a free download, contains remade courses from Super Mario Bros. and the iconic Super Mario Bros. 3:

  • Super Mario Bros: 1-1
  • Super Mario Bros: 1-2
  • Super Mario Bros: 1-4
  • Super Mario Bros 3: 1-1
  • Super Mario Bros 3: 1-5
It will be free until January 31st 2013 and cost 200 Yen after (£1.50/$2.50) that date.

Update:
The DLC pack has also gone live in the North America eShop, also free until January 31st and $2.50 thereafter.

This is really awesome! Thanks Nintendo!

I saw an announcement about this for North America via Nintendo on Facebook this morning.

Ahh this is actually pretty cool.. it makes me almost want the game.
Maybe I'll get it for Christmas. Smilie

I read this wrong... I thought you had to collect a certain amount of coins to get this as free DLC. Great news it's free to everyone though, haha! Smilie

Yeah, lmao. I was like "WOAH, I'LL NEVER GET THAT" then I realised it was saying how many coins all players have collected in total. xD

Will have to download this if it comes out in the UK! Some of my favourite Mario levels are in this pack! Smilie

It's pretty weird how remakes of 5 old levels makes people want this game, but 50+ (??) totally new levels don't.

Hahah! I read it as that as well, i thought Nintendo were being a bit stingy but even for £1.50 its a good deal!

...I already have the game? Smilie

I've read a lot of "Ok Nintendo you've got me, now I finally have to buy this game" comments on Eurogamer.

Somewhere I share that retro feeling... But can that be 10x as strong as playing a totally new game?

From the reviews, NSMB2 is nothing special at all, which is why a lot of people haven't bothered yet.

I love the game. In my opinion it is one of the best 2D Mario games.
