Speaking to GameSpot in a video question-and-answer session, Resident Evil 6 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi opened up about the possibility of a remake of the classic survival horror game Resident Evil 2, which started its life on PlayStation, and has since been ported to multiple consoles, including Nintendo 64 and GameCube.
Just to lay all the cards on the table, that way there's no rumor-mongering or things like that, no, we are not working on a Resident Evil 2 remake as of now. But if the fans really clamor for it; if there's a groundswell of support for remaking that game, then I think that's something Capcom would take under consideration.
Hirabayashi worked as a motion capture engineer for the remake of the original Resident Evil on GameCube, which was eventually ported to Wii, too, and was met with universal praise, with some calling it the scariest and most visually stunning game to be made. Certainly with today's powerhouse consoles, the prospect of a remake of Resident Evil 2 is something that a lot of survival horror fans would want to see, so if they do speak up perhaps we could be seeing 'REmake 2' on Wii U in the future...
