E3 2012 | Nintendo Rep Confirms White Wii U Only at Launch on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Those seeking a slice of black Wii U may have to wait a little longer: A rep has confirmed that the system will launch in white.

Nintendo has been incredibly keen to show off both colours this week - a sleek, living-room friendly black Wii U, coupled with the a slick, original white Wii U. The black version has been seen just as much as the original, the focus of a handful of Wii U demonstrations, trailers and screenshots - but it won't be available initially.

Speaking to Destructoid earlier this week at E3, a Nintendo representative confirmed that whilst just the white model will be available, black will come about some day.

For the moment that is - Nintendo's plans may change in the build up to launch, and the system could go the way of the GameCube or 3DS and hit retail in two colour varieties.

I would actually restrain from buying the WiiU at launch just to get the black console at a later date.

Well, with the lack of strong launch titles Nintendo isn't making that so hard to do.

I think "restrain" made it sound like I thought it would be difficult, but I feel the exact same way as you. Smilie

If the black isn't available on day one, it's stupid. Look at Nintendo's E3 site, what is the first image you see, staring you in the face? That's right, black Wii U.

Nintendo not releasing the black version at launch would be almost like they didn't want anyone to buy it at launch. Smilie

That's a ridiculous thing to announce now. Has the console's production started yet? I doubt it. So it's not too late to decide now that they will release it in black, too. We know they're paying attention to what users write on forums, and everyone is saying the same thing, they want it in black, not white, after that video with the guy in glasses.

They know we want black, and they'd give us white only? Whoever decided already that there will be only white at launch despite the fact that they decided to show a black one at E3, should be fired right away.

I like the white a lot. Mine sits between the PS3 and my black sky box. Its a cool contrast. However I want the black one. I hate every little discolouration that shows up on the little fucker and the controls. Its annoying to keep clean.

Yeah I think I'll be giving this console a few months to find out when the black one will come. I don't like the look of the white (the blue light looks so much better on black) and from what they've shown, there's nothing interesting that I couldn't happily play at a later date, such as Pikmin.

Add me on anything. I'm always looking for new friends/opponents/town visitors/chances to appear more popular than I actually am.

Unless there are some black skins to order online somewhere, I'll probably wait for Black also. My white Wii stands out too much amidst all the black stuff around my TV, and I don't want that again.
