Rumors surrounding a sequel to Sumo Digital's Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing have floated around for a while, and today SEGA finally revealed that those rumors were true.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed sees the return of Sonic and classic SEGA characters racing across a variety of aptly themed courses. This time though, the gameplay aspects will be different, with vehicles now having the ability to transform into cars, boats or planes. Transforming is likely to be essential, because courses will now be able to morph during a race, meaning some areas may require you to transform into another vehicle.
Furthermore, SEGA say that the game will have an improved weapon system that allows you to evade or block incoming attacks, as well as enhanced online multiplayer modes. New characters revealed so far, include Gilius Thunderhead from Golden Axe and Vyse from Skies of Arcadia - there's also a new Panzer Dragoon course.
There's no word on whether the game will be coming to Nintendo's next-gen console, the Wii U, but it will be heading to the Nintendo 3DS.
