Miyamoto Not Keen on New F-Zero for Current Generation on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Speaking to Develop magazine, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto revealed an uncertainty about a F-Zero revival.

Whilst being quizzed about a possible Link to the Past remake, the magazine popped the question: Just what is Nintendo's stance on the popular futuristic racer, F-Zero and whether there would be a new version in the works - especially with the series' absence on the Wii, DS and 3DS so far.

He confessed - perhaps one of the reasons why there hasn't been a new entry in so long was that there isn't a "similar surprise" to when the original games came out on the current hardware line-up.

That said, with the Wii U on the way, he did offer some hope for fans that with the newer technology, "we could create something that does make sense, either as a smaller game, or a fully fledged title."

The last F-Zero games were GP-Legend for Game Boy Advance in 2004 and a Japan-exclusive Climax in the same year.

Would you like to see a new F-Zero game on the Wii U or 3DS? Does a game need a "surprise factor" to justify a new version?

I actually posed the question to Sakurai-san to see if he'd be interested in tackling something like F-Zero as a challenge...I wonder if the question will get knocked off for not being relevant to KI:U, though Smilie

Anyway, I'd LOVE a internally-developed Nintendo version...none of the SEGA nonsense Smilie

F-Zero GX was awesome! I can't tell with your cheeky smiley if you're being sarcastic or not, but F-Zero GX one of my favorite games of all time! The only other F-Zero I played was X (the N64 one), and while it's good fun, the GX one is even better.

Color me surprised if it comes out at all. Will that do? I'd really just like a new F-Zero game, please Smilie

I'm somewhat glad a new F-Zero didn't come out on Wii, despite the controller perhaps being one of the appealing aspects to bring it out for it. I can still imagine a GC controller would have been compatible, and motion controls inferior, like MKWii.

F-Zero is sort of like the Smash Bros games in that one a generation is probably the best way for it. GX was graphically one of the best GC games, and a Wii game would have just been on the same level as it. So apart from motion controls (which would probably be optional), it would have needed a lot more added to it to make it special.

It's definitely the best way to wait till Wii U for the next instalment, since HD will do it the justice it deserves, as well as provide us with, hopefully, the full 30 players online races that it desperately needs. Wii couldn't provide that, so I think it would have been a slightly pointless entry after GX if it came out on Wii. At least with Wii U it can give us HD, online and motion controls, and hopefully more.

I personally thought GX was the best entry. Crammed full of content and a quality machine customisation feature. That's another thing the Wii U controller could provide - the ability to draw high quality images to stick on the ship. Imagine just spinning your machine around on the tablet, zooming in and spraying it. There's so much potential for F-Zero on Wii U.

They have to bring back F-Zero and Starfox, especially if they want to get back their most hardcore fans as well as a market that really loves fast action oriented games. I still believe that F-Zero GX is the best racing game I've ever played. So intense, fast, thrilling, and nerve racking. The controls were so precise too.

I winked because I knew the reaction my comment would cause. I adored F-Zero and F-Zero X, but really wasn't a fan of what SEGA did to the series.

Superfast racing in 3D sounds like a pretty big surprise factor to me!

Have to agree a bit with Adam there.
I liked the Sega F-Zero to a degree, nice graphics and speed, but it was all a bit tame in the level design and music department.
The little movie clips were somewhat entertaining, nice graphics again. Not sure why they added those interviews after a win, I don't need to hear about a 'background' and 'motivation' from players in a racing game. Keep that to cheesy Hollywood movies please.

F-Zero X definitely was more fun to me, new stuff like the Death Race and Random Track Generator Cup(X-Cup I think?) were great additions. I also loved the heavy metal soundtrack. Really not something to listen to outside the game though.
Experiencing stuff like the magnetic tube, the 360 degrees raceable tunnels and the rediculously dangerous half pipe bits for the first time was exhilirating! Excellent racing track innovations(not sure how new they were in the gaming world in general though).

The headline before the jump is rather deceiving:
"Miyamoto Not Keen on New F-Zero"

I'll give you the X Cup. That was utter brilliance. I have no idea why that wasn't included in the Gamecube version.

I remember playing a race on the X Cup, and there was this absolutely ridiculous turn. It involved turning almost 90 degrees while the track was going from mostly vertical to horizontal. After several attempts, me and my friend figured that the only way to make it was by moving at a crawl (otherwise you'd fly off the edge). In the first lap, literally 15 cars flew off the track; it was beautiful. By the end of the race, my machine was literally the only one that had survived, so all I had to do was finish to win first place. Awesome. Smilie

This wpuld be great if it happened on U. I'm no graphic whore but Miamoto makes a good point, with a game like F-Zero shiney & pretty on a big scale is nessesary.

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

Would want Sega to make it, not Nintendo

Utter blasphemy on GX from some peeps on here, i am not a major fan of the SNES/GBA versions to be fair, although i do own the SNES version on the VC.

Fzero X was insane and GX was gorgeous and the AX machines were just impossible to find! (Still can't complete Diamond on Master to unlock it)

I think that this is a heavily neglected series, something that Nintendo fans have been crying to be made, although i do agree that a Wii version probably wouldn't have bettered the GX version.

I would want this to be a fully-fledged game, if they turned this into something simple (and too easy) then i would be highly annoyed!

BRING BAACK F-ZERO!

I loved F-Zero X. GX was ok, I didn't like the way you bounce against the edges.

Who played the one for the AGB launch? Smilie

I guess if people wanted a stop gap they can get WipeOut for the PS3, i got the HD one for free during the whole Sony Hack freebies last year but have not played it at all.

For those without a PS3 and like the Wii Ware service then why not get FAST Racing League. I believe it got a good score here on C3!

FAST Racing League is really good, it just doesn't feel as fast as F-Zero X or GX, I get the same thing from when I see someone play WipeOut,

How can anyone call F-Zero GX "tame" on the level design O_o
You had levels that went from flat, to a tube, and then passed into/out of itself! You had some truly amazing tracks.

Only thing missing was a randomly created one!

Wait a minute, I remember some more tracks from GX. There were some brilliantly designed tracks in that one yes. Not tame indeed. Thanks, I remember a lot more from X than GX for some reason.

Yeah TAG, there seemed to be at least one track in every X cup with a completely batshit insane turn in it. Good fun.
Also the announcer voice in that game is really bad. I wish I could have muted it.

An F-Zero on 3DS would be awesome. F-Zero would make great use of 3D. Add in some online multiplayer, and I'm sure you'd have another hit on your hands, Nintendo!Smilie

No one outside of gaming message boards cares about Fzero. Nintendo is looking to make money, not release games to a niche audience.
