Epic's Mark Rein Believes in Wii U Potential

Epic

Bringing in new gaming hardware in the current climate maybe a tricky affair, and the Wii U may have problems converting. However Epic Games' Mark Rein is brimming with confidence towards Nintendo's potentially game-changing concept.

With the Wii U open to a growing list of the industry's best engines, one of them being Unreal Engine 3 produced by Rein's studio, and he feels that Epic can do "even more than" the stunning Legend of Zelda concept Nintendo produced during last year's E3 Expo. “Would you not buy a Wii U just to play [the E3 Zelda demo]? Of course you would. That’s what Nintendo is all about. Their hardware is the software delivery service for their great content."

I like the Wii U. I think E3 will be a big eye-opener for people.

[Nintendo is] a great brand that a lot of parents really trust and they’re probably ready to buy their kids an HD Wii that does that much more than just being an HD Wii Did you play that Battle Mii game? Two players would play with a Wii Remote and Nunchuk and one would play with the Wii U controller. I would buy a Wii U to play that game in a heartbeat.

Despite being full of praise for Nintendo's next home offering, Mark Rein believes E3 will truly be a time for Nintendo to show us "what the Wii U can do and I think at E3 this year they’re going to shock us.”

Hang on, unreal engine 3 can produce better effects than the zelda demo? We all know thats not true. However, i have read that Epic will showcase unreal engine 4 on new hardware...
Unreal engine 4 on Wii U perhaps?

June 5-7

Ofcourse, Mark Rein's Simply promoting his company's product, but Unreal Engine 3 is a really impressive engine, especially on PC where it can actually show off a bit.

The Zelda demo was just using the Twlight Princess/TWW engine with higher resolutions.
So, yes, it likely can.
In fact, Capcoms MT5 engine on the 3DS can do more.

He probably never played FourSwords or PacMan VS

Well if thats the case then im impressed, however i read, certain graphics 'experts' have stated the zelda demo wouldnt be possible on current gen hardware, perhaps they excluded the PC structure in their analysis?
Either way it looked great and you seem pretty certain, so i'll go with that.
I'd also place a reasonable amount of money on EPIC showcasing unreal engine 4 for the 1st time on Wii U.
Unless theres a new graphics card to steal the limelight which is almost a certainty, though with all Mike Reins talk on Wii U lately im just putting 2 and 2 together, because we knew that batman would become available for Wii U at last years e3 and its no secret that batman uses unreal engine 3.

Well, the thing is, things can look absolutely amazing without needing advanced shaders or effects. Sometimes you just need skilled artists and superb textures.

I still think, aside from the poor quality water, Xenoblade is one of the best looking titles I have played, PC included. (comparing to other games with open-ended landscapes, that is, its obviously easier to look great with enclosed areas)
A engine is like a artists palette - you still need to know how to use it Smilie

Probably - after all, depends who's PC?
I'm sure if you work at Pixar you could handle it Smilie

Very funny, im sure they wouldve refered to PC as a consumer product. Smilie

Absolutely, Xenoblade Chronicles is work of art, a brilliantly realised fantasy world, It really exerts itself but manages to remain highly presentable throughout. Pure class. A real journey through adventure.
