Rumours circling the interwebs suggest that Nintendo is considering re-branding the Wii U console - does it need a name change?
According to CVG, insiders are suggesting that Nintendo is really thinking hard about how to name the hardware and if "Wii U" would cause confusion amongst the general public.
Naming has played a vital role in the strategy for both the Wii and DS, the platforms have become household names in the public eye. The success of the original dual screened handheld has also offered a slight curse on the 3D follow-up: there was, and still is, a fair bit of confusion as to just what the 3DS is.
Granted sales for the 3DS are on the up, but the initial and ongoing confusion with the name has lead Nintendo to ponder how to approach the Wii U, so say those close to the Japanese outfit.
After the rapid price drop for the hardware last year, company president Satoru Iwata mentioned how Nintendo will learn "bitter lessons" when putting together the finishing touches to the new living-room box.
