3DS Passes 4 Million in the US on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo have broken new hardware and software records with the 3DS, Super Mario 3D Land, Zelda and Mario Kart 7.

The North American arm announced today that the Nintendo 3DS has now sold over 4 Million units across the country since launching at the end of March last year - more than the Wii and original DS consoles achieved when they first dived into the US market.

Leading Nintendo franchises also performed well over the holiday season, breaking new records - Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword becoming the fastest-selling titles in their franchises to date, rather easily skipping past the 1 million mark.

Overall in 2011 Nintendo flogged 12 million consoles during 2011 - 4.5 million Wii, over 4 million 3DS and around 3.4 million regular DS.

One of the strongest software lineups in our history helped Nintendo have a great holiday season and to close 2011 with a full head of steam.

Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing

I'm glad to see it doesn't quite seem to be the end of portable consoles. I was worried when the console launched that all we'd see in the future of portable gaming was 69p quick-fixes and free-to-play distractions.

Add me on anything. I'm always looking for new friends/opponents/town visitors/chances to appear more popular than I actually am.
