Mario and Sonic Make Wii Go Blue on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo today announced a new Wii colour and bundle for Europe next month to celebrate Olympics love with Mario and Sonic.

Due out on the 18th of November, the limited-edition Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games Wii Bundle takes on a new shade - the Wii console and controllers now in a funky blue tone.

The new look console will also be one of the first to ditch GameCube support from the Wii in a bid to become more family accessible and shift towards the eventual release of the Wii U next year.

Various other bundles are set to try and recapture the holiday market for the aging platform, which turns five this December.

Wow, who would have ever thought that one day, there would be a Sonic-themed SKU of a Nintendo console. Smilie

I know, it's mad! Check out the updated report with the boxart, crazy to see "Published by SEGA" on the top of a Nintendo console box. Granted SEGA logos on Nintendo games have been around for a while, but this is pretty crazy!

Is this the first time the blue Wii Remote Plus has been available in Europe? If so, then I reckon the pink Wii and Remote bundle could be coming as well.

I almost thought that was a soundtrack CD for a second, then realised it's the cheap cardboard sleeve for the game like they did for Wii Sports. Wouldn't buy a blue console personally, but great to see different colours anyway.

Edit: There's a blue Wii in the pics section, but looks different to the one in the news piece. Has the stand for a start, and looks to be the older model. Bit of a mix up?

I like that it matches the pre-existing blue Wiimotes rather than being more of a sonic blue.

If I didn't have a Wii, I'd consider buying this one over the black one.

Like video game music?!

It's a lovely colour but
- I don't have it
- It ditched GC support

So either way I don't want it, even if it's ~beautiful~..

But wow I also can't believe it's taken them so long to do a bundle with a Sonic-related game in it? Very good.

In Europe Nintendo are 'remodelling' the Wii, ultimately replacing the originals with new slightly cheaper consoles with no GC controller/memory card/game support by Christmas.

It's basically the dumbest thing ever.

I think he was more questioning the line itself, which implies ditching GC support makes the console more family friendly.

I agree with everyone here when they say it's amazing to see Sonic influencing the design of the Wii and the actual box itself saying it's been designed by Sega.

I would get it, just because I do actually love the color, but the fact that I wont be able to play my GC games? That's ridiculous. I don't understand how it will be more family accessible and get us ready for the Wii U. :/ Only turn off.
