Kingdom Hearts 3D - New TGS Trailer on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Square Enix brought a dollop of Disney love to TGS this week with a new trailer for the 3DS Kingdom Hearts outing, Dream Drop Distance.

The latest chapter in the popular RPG franchise follows on from the revival of Xehanort, and protagonists Sora and Riku are sent out to attempt the Mark of Mystery exam in a bid to become full Keyblade Masters and counter the upcoming threat. The new adventure blends older worlds, characters with new faces, locations and even a guest stint by Neku from The World Ends with You.

Ah I only found out like yesterday that Neku was in this and I pretty much had a squealing fit.

Even after all the crap S-E churns out Kingdom Hearts never seems to let me down, so words can't describe my excitement for this <33 I hope localisation doesn't take too long this time either.

Graphically it looks better than the PS2 games. That's a good sign. Gameplay wise it looks like traditional Kingdom Hearts gameplay only faster, and taking a few mechanics from Prince of Persia. I'm intrigued.

I think the name is awkward, but clever. Hmmm... I don't like the idea of recycling areas again, but it looks like there's enough new to make me happy.

The Kingdom Hearts games have a lot to live up to. The first one was so different and caught everybody by surprise - I know people who wept at the ending of the first game for crying out loud! I really hope they are setting up an amazing finale for this series and not just some dumb Disney spin off. This series is a beautiful work of art and it deserves to go out with the fanfare that it emerged to.

Indeedy. Dream=setting, Drop=method of entering the worlds, Distance=probably something to do with the new battle mechanics.

As for the worlds, Square have already said that all the Disney worlds will be new, and even traverse town looked revamped. So glad this'll be more like BBS than 358/2, though I loved both equally. ^^

Super, weren't you not very keen on TWEWY? an surprised that you're as enthusiastic as I am at the cameo. Smilie

I figured the title had something to do with the gameplay, but I was actually referring to title being made up of three "D" words: Dream Drop Distance. (And its on the 3DS.) Am I the only one who noticed this or am I just stating the obvious? (I have a tenancy to do that sometimes, sorry! Smilie)

Wha wha what is this I loved TWEWY especially Neku. Granted it's not my favourite DS game by any means and I found it really hard and confusing gameplay wise (and still do)

But yes omg.

As for the title I'm pretty sure the "3D" placeholder came first and then they worked out Dream Drop Distance from there, even if it's relevant. KH games have a tendency of having ridiculous titles.

Nah Duggler, it's supposed to be obvious ;P They stated when they gave the tentative name of 'Kingdom Hearts 3D' that the '3D' part would have more meaning. I sussed before they announced the proper title that it could go the way it did!

This looks really impressive anyway. I really enjoyed the PS2 KH games' stories, although it started to get a little OTT with KH2 - Organisation XIII and the Nobodies etc. But likeable characters, a cute style and FF people made me love it so much more.

How do the DS games compare to the PS2 titles? In terms of gameplay and story? Do the stories get even more confusing and crazy? Is the gameplay tedious/slow, or fun/fast?

I like the idea of putting in non-FF chars now, like Neku. Branching out to more Square games like Vagrant Story, The Bouncer, Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve, etc to bring those main guys in would be cool too. Or use the FF side series games mains, like from Crystal Bearers and FF Tactics. Why not be bold and have Eidos' Lara Croft in a cutesy chibi form! ;O I just realised, FFXIII chars could be in it too, like Light! omg now I want Kingdom Hearts 3 D:

They make really good use of the system, the gameplay itself is pretty much spot on, and the story of coded is actually pretty good although convoluted (the series gets more and more convoluted with every release but it's kind of cool too). 358/2 Days is tedious simply due to the way the game is laid out, annoying mission based gameplay with barely any interesting story to keep you going. Coded on the other hand is a bit more like a traditional KH game in which you go from world to world, the story's a bit of a rehash but it gets really interesting.

I'm thinking Neku's in it simply because he's also Nomura's creation, I doubt many characters that aren't his creation will be popping up.

And saying that I have absolutely no doubt that Lightning will be in KHIII.

Ah yeah, that's why there were hardly any FFIX characters in the games, apart from Vivi in KH2. IX is boss...it needs those chars in a KH game, same with XII's.

But yes, I would put a lot on saying XIII chars will be in KH3. Hm, so long to wait u_u

Exactly what I was thinking.

Apparently Nomura was pressed to put in FF characters from other FF games like Setzer (VI) and Vivi (IX) unfortunately he can't write any of them accurately at all lol.

As for KHIII it'll be a long wait since work on it won't begin until the next 3 sidegames are all out and VersusXIII is done.
So yeah wait until 2016 maybe they'll have started working on it by then.

Yep, Versus XIII crossed my mind when thinking about when KH3 would come. Very much looking forward to that one, so happy to wait, but yep, looks like a good few years yet!

Next 3 side games? Are you just assuming on that part, or are more side games confirmed for like Vita, 3DS etc?

It's been confirmed that there will be three more side games between Re:coded and KHIII.

Two of them being KH3D and BBS Part2. Idk what the third one is yet though.

yeahh!!!! well i bought a psp just for bbs. so now its off to buy a 3ds.... i guess. why not.

I guess that was how the Organization XIII Nobodies came to be

Ok I take back what I said earlier, Neku looks fine & nothing like Roxas so all is well.

Kinda on the fence with Riku's hair style though...

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

There aren't 3 more side games. It was confirmed that this would be the last spin off before KH 3 which would close the Xehanort saga and that they would continue making KH games with Sora as the lead.

This game looks great. Much better than the one with Roxus. The battle system looks awesome as do the graphics. Just hope SE don't make the plot even more confusing than it already is.

This looks insane in a lot of ways.

I really want to go back and play the first game, and I guess I should give number 2 another try if I plan on playing this one. And TWEWY.

Like video game music?!
