Electronic Arts are a key third-party developer and publisher to attain, when it comes to gaining support for a new console. Their popular franchises, which include Mass Effect, Dead Space, Need for Speed and FIFA have lead them to become one of the most successful names in the videogame industry.
The news that EA will be supporting Nintendo’s new console won’t come as a surprise then, but the company is planning to support the console from day one, with launch titles. This news was revealed by Frank Gibeau, who has shown enthusiasm towards the Wii U in a recent interview with GamesIndusrty.biz.
His enthusiasm for the new machine comes from the innovation behind the controller, plus the fact that the console features HD resolutions and is much more powerful than the Wii. Gibeau even focused on particular titles that he thought would work well with the new controller, with the likes of Madden, FIFA and Battlefield getting a mention. He also spoke of how EA is an agnostic company and if they believe a platform will have commercial success, as well as critically, then they will support that platform.
With the Wii U it's important for us to get there on day one so we can get in and build as big an audience as possible, We were really blown away by the unique innovation that Nintendo brings with the Wii U controller on a high performance machine. We were excited by what Nintendo presented to us. We thought about it and it fits well with what we're trying to do with our franchises like FIFA and Madden and Battlefield. There's great horsepower there, great innovation and Nintendo's got fantastic branding.
We're platform agnostic as a company so if we find something we believe will have success commercially and critically, and has a business model that works for us, we're in.
