One of Nintendo's launch apps for the upcoming eShop service, Pokédex 3D will feature Augmented Reality - here's how it works.
The freely available app will allow 3DS owners to view the new generation of Pokémon featured in the Black and White editions, from the adorable starters Tepig, Snivy and Oshawott to the legends who adorn the boxes.

As well as viewing stats and your collection on the 3D screen, Pokédex 3D users will be able to see the critters in real settings using Augmented Reality (AR).
According to Siliconera the Pokémon will require their own special marker - it's currently uncertain whether the default AR cards can be used and where the new markers can be obtained.
However the Pokemon will be animated, and can perform special actions depending on if you use any items.
Your roster will start at 16, but more can be unlocked by scanning QR codes, connecting with friends and through Spotpass online.

Pokédex launches this week alongside the 3DS firmware update from June 6/7.
