E311 Media | Amoebattle Announced for DSiWare on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Intrinsic Games, developers of Divergent Shift, have announced their latest DSiWare title: Amoebattle, an amoeba-based real time strategy game that the team claim will "raise the bar" for the genre. It's a battle for primordial soup-remacy!

Players will explore a microscopic world, nurturing amoebas and discovering new species in order to combat hostile microbes. Nine different types of amoeba each have their own strengths, weaknesses and abilities, such as the Viper amoeba's paralytic toxins, or Locust amoebas' instant replication. Terrains can also be used beneficially, allowing a Shark amoeba to hide and ambush foes from the water, and technological probes can be sent out to give your cells a helping hand by freezing any threats.

"This is easily the most ambitious project we have ever undertaken. We wanted to craft an experience unlike any other. This is the definitive handheld title that RTS fans have wanted since the Nintendo DS touch-screen was first introduced." - Hersh Choksi, President of Instrinsic Games

Amoebattle has been developed with Nintendo DSi in mind, and will accordingly use the touch-screen and dual screens to appeal to players of all skill levels. Intrinsic Games will be updating the game's official website regularly while pushing towards a 2011 release.

Cubed3 will be going hands-on with Amoebattle very soon; until then, enjoy the screenshots in our media album.

FIRST!

Anyway this looks like a fun game. Games where you choose your own strengths, weaknesses, and special abilities are always fun, as it adds an element of personalization to a game, so unlike with other games, the playing experience can be different from person to person, so I'm hoping that our internet will soon be fixed so I can download this and play!

On November 21st (in North America), you'll know where to find me... knee deep in empty styrofoam ramen noodle cups, swinging a Wii remote+ around with my massive arms I will have developed from playing Skyward Sword for 20 straight hours...
