Game Gear, TurboGrafx Head to 3DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Update: Game Gear line-up announced. Both Game Gear and TurboGrafx have been confirmed for the 3DS Virtual Console.

Sega's battery hungry, colour portable didn't grab much of the portable market it its time, but was home to over 390 games, including Sonic the Hedgehog, The Lion King and Shaq Fu.

TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine, developed by Hudson/NEC in the late eighties, wasn't the most successful performer in the West, but did have a handful of gaming gems, including Blazing Lazers, China Warrior and Vigilante.

Pricing have yet to be announced, but both consoles will be available for the 3DS eShop/Virtual Console at some point in the future.

Update: The launch line-up for the Game Gear games has been confirmed:

  • Sonic & Tails 2
  • Sonic Drift 2
  • The GG Shinobi
  • Dragon Crystal Shirani's Maze

    There is irony here somehow.

It's logical that the PC-Engine is coming to the 3DS, since it had its portable version, the PG-Engine GT (or TurboExpress depending on where you're from).

I'd have mentionned bigger games for it, such as Street Fighter II' Champion Edition, one of the best console versions of Street Fighter II available. The R-Type ports are also incredible and near arcade-perfect.

    Because the 3DS is also power-hungry ?

Yawn, won't be interested in this service until GBA games are available and even then i'm more interested in the 3DSware stuff.

By Sonic & Tales 2, do you mean Sonic & Tails 2, the GG-only sequel to Sonic Chaos? (Called Sonic Tiple Trouble outside of Japan.)

Decent line up, but I want Mickey Mouse.

What's stopping them from releasing NES, SNES, etc. games for it?

Sorry, amended the article - it didn't have as much success in the west as TG16 given most developers had flocked to the NES and only considered taking the risk on the console if it had become more popular.

Then came Sega's Genesis/MD and the rest is history really - outside Japan anyway.

Irony HERE?! Did you miss the part where you can download SNES AND SEGA Genesis games on the Wii?

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

The PC Engine GT does murder batteries.

    Stupidity?

Add me on anything. I'm always looking for new friends/opponents/town visitors/chances to appear more popular than I actually am.
