Super Mario Gets a Tail on the 3DS? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

It's been mentioned several times, but now it's official: Super Mario is heading to 3DS, complete with a tail!

During his speech at this year's Game Developer's Conference today, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata teased the gaming community with the logo for the forthcoming 3DS project, currently without a subtitle.

Notice the splodge/tail poking out from the end? Iwata wants you to think about that one, long and hard, drop everything - until the game's reveal at E3 in June. He also mentioned that the Super Mario Galaxy studio in Tokyo are the brains behind this one - could this be a follow-up 3D platformer?

I really hope it's not another Galaxy. It did have a Galaxy look to it. Though it's been pointed out it looked more flat in the screens.

Yeah that's why my money is on, focusing on the fan favorite Racoon suite for this adventure.

Look at the bottom left screenshot on the 2nd pic. Are we going to have small Mario transform into Super Mario when he eats a mushroom like in the 2D games? That would be sweet.

The graphics look pretty much like a direct port of the Galaxy series, which is great. The world looks more Mario 64-esque, to me anyways.

And yes, I immediately thought of the Racoon suit!

Is anyone else surprised by this? I was expecting a traditional 2D Mario game well before a 3D one. hmmm...

Hope it comes out sometime round chrismas or the time as Mario Kart 3DS comes out. Seeing the small mario and all those ? boxes it looks it would be like the Classic Super Mario Bros mix with 3D which Shigeru Miyamoto was saying a few years ago after the New Super Mario Bros ds came out and was thinking for a Sequel ( not the NSMB WII )that it would be 3d platformer and he did say a few weeks ago he wanted to show new super mario bros on the 3DS as soon possible and this could be it I hope it is (but I may be wrong) but anyway this is the kind of Mario I want on my 3DS not 2.5D like the NSMB and NSMBWII. A brand new 3D Mario Game which is all I wanted on the old ds but I all Got was Super Mario 64 DS( which COOL but still wanted a original 3D Mario title for the ds )

How has anybody not noticed that its only the shadow that has the tail? As well as the whole text background having a text drop shadow, not normal for Mario. Shadow/alternate world game maybe?

Very surprised really, I think a 3D Mario is a bit far out for the "casual" Mario fans (i.e. The fans of the DS series of Mario).

If we're only seeing screenshots now it won't be out this Christmas. Next Christmas (Maybe Summer) I'd say sometime between October - December 2012. Lets hope it arrives before the world ends.....

The text would look all wrong if it had no shadow, it's just the design of it, we're definitely seeing Raccoon Mario.
