Over the weekend unconfirmed reports from SEGA representatives have hinted at an anniversary game to be made in 2D/3D.
The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise turns a big two-zero in 2011, celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the first game on SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis.
According to SEGA reps present at Madrid's Gamefest 2010 SEGA will be remembering his classic adventures and levels in a new 3D/2D adaptation using what's sounding like the setup for Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colours. It would mean selected levels from past Sonic games, like Green Hill Zone for example, redesigned for the current generation.
However on the second day of the expo SEGA were "not allowed to talk about Sonic Anniversary."
Another report is stating that a Sonic-related project is under embargo until October 22nd - could this be the same game? Watch this space for more details.
Would you be up for a game like the proposed Sonic Anniversary - or should the classics be left alone? How would you like to remember SEGA's beloved mascot?
