Nintendo 3DS to Connect with Wii? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo's CEO, Satoru Iwata, has spoken briefly about the possibility of the 3DS connecting to Wii. Many people have been wondering if Nintendo would follow the trend of inter-system connectivity, given how the Game Boy Advance could hook-up to the GameCube, and the DS and Wii can be connected via local wireless to the transferral of data or to even use the DS as a controller in some cases.

Iwata-san was asked whether the 3DS will indeeed connect to Wii, or other future Nintendo home consoles, to which he responded: "We believe that, naturally, instant communication between the 3DS and a console in your home will become one topic in the future, but today I cannot talk about specifics regarding the kinds of things you can do in terms of connectivity between a 3DS and console." This was followed up, though, by the suggestion that Nintendo is always looking into new ideas on the connectivity front, "We'll surely be thinking about connectivity with consoles as well."

What sort of functionality would you like to see between the Nintendo 3DS and Wii, or other home consoles?

I think it all depends on when the next console is coming out. Next fall will be five years for Wii, the traditional lifespan of a console.

If Wii is going to be around for another 1.5-2 years after 3DS launch, it would make sense to connect the two. But if a new console is going to be announced at E3 and released in the fall, 10-11 months after 3DS launch, it might make more sense to just wait. (Of course, it would probably be easy to do since the architecture setup is probably very similar to the DS).

Surely it should at the very least connect in DS-mode or something for the (underused) demo feature of the Nintendo channel?

the 3ds could be a good controller for games like mario kart because of its motion sensor it might be able to act as a steering wheel

Remember with the DS' release, that was two years, before the Wii. there's enough DS' and Wii's released to be able to launch the 3DS without any issues with people wanting to connect the systems. also, what Iwata said "connectivity, between 3DS and console." sounds like he's talking about the successor of the Wii.

o like the ubber DS to Wii connection?

i truly hate the potential that is left untouched/explored by big n's handhelds to consoles.

i think the coolest GBA/SP to GC connection activity was Animal Crossing/007: EoN/FF:CC

and for DS to Wii just demo's and in my opinion Batman: Brave and the Bold.

SOOOO WEAK!!!
