New rumours appear to be flying around about the unveiling of Nintendo's new handheld gaming device, the '3DS', which will be shown off at this year's E3 convention. This time, the rumour mill seems to be spreading its love a bit wider....widescreen in fact. If an FCC filing submitted by Nintendo and Mitsumi (electronics manufacturer) are to be believed, then the next in line of Nintendo's portables could be in for some widescreen action.

Featured above is said to be a Target Board for the 3DS prototype. Clearly shown are two screens, one of which, shows a wider form factor, whilst the lower screen remains similar to the current DS' shape. Other parts to mention would be the fairly obvious speakers on the right hand side, as well as the inclusion of some form of memory card reader (bottom left) and what may possibly be an analogue stick (bottom middle). However, without a higher resolution image, it is very difficult to separate the various components, aside from the very obvious.
Along with the FCC report was a request by Nintendo stating that it would prefer the guts of its handheld not to be made public for a period of 180 days starting from last April. This would suggest that the time frame would finish just before the Christmas season....Coincidence? We'll have to see in the coming months.
Would you like to see the 3DS feature widescreens? And are you looking forward to the unveiling at E3 next month?
