Tony Hawk: Shred Confirmed on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Tony Hawk himself has confirmed that he will be lending his name to another new title, this time called Tony Hawk: Shred. After the heavily criticised Tony Hawk: Ride, clearly the hope is that this new outing will set the once lauded skateboarding series back on the right track.

The original post from Tony Hawk's personal Twitter account has now been removed, but previously stated "Tony Hawk: Shred. There, I said it. Actually, I named it. Somewhere a PR team is reeling."

Did any readers actually try out Tony Hawk: Ride? What should be done to reboot the series?

I always found it ironic that this thing was so panned, and then the project natal video us over here in the states can't stop wetting themselves over shows... pretty much the exact same thing, only you don't use the board, lol.
I haven't played Ride, but I thought it looked interesting. The Tony Hawk games were actually some of the first games I got into in the 3D generations, so I have a soft spot for them. There's no real depth or anything, it's basically the same stuff over and over, but I think they're all right, overall. I haven't played one since American Wasteland, which was easily my favorite in the series, but I can't imagine they've gotten much worse.

Tony Hawk 2 on GBA was hailed as being one of the best games for the system!

They need to stop milking these games for all their worth. The best one was pro-skater 3 and in the event of Ride I haven't heard a lot of good things about it. Tony is giving his name to a series people still think are good but the company's not making as much money as they used to.

I want to see "Santa Claus: Sled", flying over the earth at immense speeds trying to get every kid their present on time.
You know they could make a great game out of that.

I think that would be fit for online flash games. For that to be a retail game, would just be awful. There are quite a few Santa games as flash, so just see if there are any with a slay race.

They could make any game out of it, not just a simple flash game. There's all kinds of elements you could implement besides the basic racing.
If there's a talented team behind it, it would rock man.

My bet is that it will return the the formula before 'Ride and try to enhance that. Mr. Hawk got all butt-hurt when 'Ride was panned, so maybe he'll continue with that formula and try to refine it into an experience which is actually playable for non-skaters.

Controlling something with your hands and controlling something with your feet is completely different. Try driving a car with your hands on the pedals and your feet on the steering wheel. Ride was mainly criticised because it required the player to have some basic skateboarding skills. This was a mistake, because many absolute non-skaters enjoyed the series, and real skaters actually go out skateboarding, not standing on a plastic plank in front of their televisions imitating various skateboarding manoeuvres.

Final Fantasy was one of the best games on the NES. Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3 sucks balls, though.

Seconded! Though sales would be limited to an extremely short period, and people would only want to play it on one day of the year Smilie Maybe Santa could have a machine gun as well?

Sure, have him compete with fake Santa Clauses too...fly by shootings you name it.

On Wii they could use the pointer function to quickly target the chimneys while flying as well as shooting.

Have you seen the video I'm talking about? I wish I could find it to show you. It had some kid and he was standing there, and he'd jump around and move his feet and stuff while playing what I presume was Skate. He wasn't using his hands at all, it was all his feet.

I know how Ride was controlled, I saw videos of it (not sure if it was the same one you saw). How do you know the kid wasn't a skater? If anyone's gonna be a skater it's gonna be a kid. Regardless, one of Ride's biggest critiques from reviewers was that you needed basic skating skills in order to play it. Here's one:
