Bandai Namco has confirmed that a third Taiko no Tatsujin game will be heading to Nintendo DS in Japan this year. The popular rhythm series has seen both its previous two DS efforts easily pass 650,000-700,000 sales each in Japan, whilst the first Wii edition is currently the second best selling Third Party game on the platform, only behind Monster Hunter 3 (tri), with the second Wii title still lingering in the Media Create Top 50 and edging ever closer to the 400,000 units mark after a slow pre-Christmas start.
Now it is time to roll out a new DS iteration in time for the summer period in Japan, with Taiko no Tatsujin DS Dororon! Youkai Daikessen set to give rhythm-hungry gamers another fifty songs to tap away to, with fan-favourite genres making a welcome return, such as J-Pop, Classic, Variety and Anime. There will be an adventure mode that allows people to travel around Japan, taking on ghosts in a music-based battle, as well as DS Download four-player fun using only one DS card. Expect more details closer to the game's 1st July release date. For now, take a look at some of the music available:
Anime: Ponyo on the Cliff, My Neighbour Totoro, Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, Doraemon, NARUTO, Crayon Shin-Chan
Variety: Thriller, Bayside Shakedown, BAROQUE HOEDOWN, Electric Parade Theme
Classic: Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Turkish March, Bicentennial Man and other stories
J-Pop: Kiseki, JOYFUL, Seasons, Choo Choo Train, RIVER
Considering the success of Elite Beat Agents, Rhythm Paradise and the announcement of Jam with the Band, should Namco Bandai Europe release the Taiko series in the West as well?
