New Mario Galaxy 2 Trailer, Play as a Luma on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

As we draw nearer to Mario's launch back into space, new details for Super Mario Galaxy 2 have surfaced, including a two player mode.

First up, the story. King Shigeru Miyamoto has stepped in and drained the Mushroom Kingdom of plot and narrative, but Peach doesn't mind - she knows that if she calls for Mario something bad is bound to happen.

According to Japanese magazine Famitsu (via Joystiq), Peach summons Mario for the once-every-100-years star festival (we're assuming those mushrooms Mario eats are age defying drugs of some sort/parallel universe/time went backwards in the last game). Along the way our hero meets an adorable star named Baby Chico, and the new duo ends up in a spot of trouble.

This is where player 2 steps in, a friend will be able to control Baby Chico with a a Wii Remote. It's not sure how much control there'll be, but we're hoping it's more than just a prettier pointer. Last but not least is a dollop of new footage from the game, seeing Mario mauled by his shadows clones, pouncing onto unsuspecting goombas and slipping past a bullet bill parade.

I hope it's a little more deep then just to support mario. I'd like some proper co op in this tbh, would make the game much better Smilie

Nintendo Network ID: LKR000               PSN: LKR000
3DS: 1246-8696-120                              GT: LKR101

Seconded... the CoOp used for Galaxy 1 (and almost every Wii game in the world since) is kinda lame, I'd really like some more proper CoOp.

Fingers crossed!

Good co-op is rare. Some WiiWare platformers have it done well. And the game series "Obscure" does it excelently.

But other then that, not much :-/

You probably mean coop with 2 players on the same screen. It usually causes camera problems...

I won't expect much from this. I wish they would have had Mario + Lugi multiplayer...

Considering how the camera works and that the planets twist and turn, having split-screen co-op would make the screen seem too chaotic, don't you think?

NSMBW pulled off co-op wonderfully. I don't think of Super Mario Galaxy as co-op so I am no expecting much, anyway.

Why no Luigi? 2p splitscreen or wireless online toghether can be done! No thanks to Luma Smilie

A split-screen or online mode would probably mean a decrease in the visuals. I would have thought so anyway.

I don't think so. The fact that the games never have long loading times probably means they have a bit more room for stuff like that Smilie

I don't think online would ever happen and I don't particularly want it to, but splitscreen CoOp could be wonderful. Either that or both players on one screen (which the Luma would probably work better with than Luigi)

I don't really care about coop personally. Proper coop would mean split screen (otherwise there's always one of the two players controlling where the camera is focused, or it has to zoom out and you then you can barely see what you're doing)

And we know what split screen can do to graphical performance (check any Mario Kart title for a good example). I'd rather have an awesome looking Mario Galaxy 2 that's focused on single player. Then again online or LAN might be a good solution but coming from Nintendo... meh Smilie

Besides Mario doesn't need to have coop to be awesome.
