A day of tomfoolery is now done and dusted, so we bring you some of the highlights of April Fool's Day 2010.
Final Fantasy VII DS
Obscure Nintendo website Cubed3 decided to destroy the hopes and dreams of many and announce a DS port of much loved Playstation classic Final Fantasy VII. Cloud's battle with his past and that scene would have come to the dual-screen portable but alas not anytime soon!Pokemon Kart Wii
This year saw Nintendo's favourite critters borrow Mario's racing setup and zip about in Karts, with 1up mixing up a gorgeous rendition of what will sadly never come to light. Even includes a fairly drugged-up Pikachu!Ace Attorney Series for Wii
"Objection, Pal!" This piece of evidence would even make a Von Karma shrivel up in fear, a Wii remake of the original Phoenix Wright trilogy and Apollo Justice's debut DS adventure complete with "HD graphics and orchestrated music". Unfortunately it was all a forgery by and you'll have to make do with the WiiWare version!Vengaboys Do Virtual Console
Eurogamer played a different sort of prank this year, slipping in an amusingly titled Venga Boys Go Wii within the regular weekly Nintendo Download line-up. Wii remote thrusts and cringeworthy costumes would have awaited you if the download had existed (we hope not).Nintendo Announces Wii Games for iPad
Apple and Nintendo seem to share some similarities, and Playswitch used this to fuel their April Fool's gag - Nintendo games playable on the upcoming iPad tablet computer, complete with on-screen Wii remote for massive damage to Nintendo's own Wii.Ecco: Water Wars 2
Do you love dolphins? If so go out and buy a copy of Ecco the Dolphin for Virtual Console. Do you like guns and dolphins? SEGA have the answer for you - Ecco: Water Wars 2, a fictional game where dolphins rise up and use pistols, grenades and all sorts of deadly weapons to kill things, and humans, much like one of The Simpsons Halloween specials.
Virtual Fighter vs Street Fighter
SEGA were prankster kings this year, mocking up a special edition of Virtual Fighter 5 and although this isn't too Nintendo-related it's certainly worth a watch! We see the cast of its fist-em-up take on the fireball wielding folks from Street Fighter, complete with amusing lets-avoid-lawsuit censorship!GAME to Stock Fruit and Veg
We've had all sorts of video and fake screen pranks, so industry mag MCV decided to introduce fruit to GAME and Gamestation stores across the country. Unfortunately you'll need to wander into your local Tescos if you want your 5-a-day. GAME is strictly for the porky plumbers and hotdog scoffing hedgehogs, until some government bum decides to do something about it, that is.Did you fall for any pranks this year? Were there any you found to add to the list?
