Nintendo Gets a Bashing from Greenpeace (again) on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Another year, and another annual survey of electronics carried out by Greenpeace says that Nintendo is still at the bottom of the pile when it comes to being green, scoring a lowly 1.4 out of 10. The main problem being its increase in e-waste and greenhouse gas emissions scorring zero in both those catergories.

PVC-free internal wiring, monitoring of harmful chemicals, disclosure of CO2 emissions and the low power of the DSi AC adaptor saved Nintendo from being awarded an even lower score, but ultimately it still ranked at the bottom of the table.

Microsoft didn't fair much better with a score of 2.4, leaving it only one place above Nintendo, whereas Sony finished high above them in 7th, with 5.1 points (on par with Motorola and Samsung). The points were awarded for greenhouse gas reduction, an increase of the use of renewable energy and recycled plastics.

The pdf report from Greenpeace can be found here.

What do you make of Greenpeace's findings? Do you think Nintendo should do more to be green?

I wouldn't like a green Wii. My black one is just fine.

I wouldn't mind if it was lime green, it would go better with my room than my white one.

moan moan moan.

I actually think such a record is utterly shocking. Companies with such huge profit margins should be working their asses off to ensure that they don't damage the planet unless it absolutely can't be avoided. You think, with the figures Nintendo is pulling in...how much do you reckon they put back into streamlining the environmental impact of their products? Same goes for a lot of electronic giants. Utterly depressing and deplorable.

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

It is shocking that Nintendo hasn't cut down, I'm sure they could, but I'm sure they don't make as many products as other companies on the list, I think that Nintendo should look in to recyclable material, not many consoles get thrown away though in our days, they just get sold on. But their carbon emissions could be cut down, I mean, they've already lowered the production of Wiis so that should help a bit.

I mean, I'm sure Nintendo could buy land and run their factory using wind turbines, like the Dagenham Motor factory that ford own, the turbines from there powered some of my college (along with solar panels).

Last report Nintendo fared poorly because they did not disclose their practices; I wonder if this is the same deal. But I would hope that Nintendo at least follows the government regulations considering how environmental Japan is.

And I wouldn't mind a Lime Green Wii either.

Nintendo is a comparatively tiny company, which happens to be producing the console with the lowest power usage and least heat output (wasted energy).

You guys have much left to learn. I for one am not shocked at all. There is so much more Nintendo could do to be \'green\'. There are things that we could do to be greener in our everyday lives, but most of us just don\'t. Nintendo is no exception. Step it up Nintendo.

EDIT: I can\'t open the document. I\'ll try to later.

Yes.
But then, when you look at the stuff Greenpeace is looking at, its bull.
Or rather, most trival things.

Greenhouse -reduction- rather then absolute. Its like marketing someone for \"effort\".
Ignoring energy consumption. Marking down for a lack of a returns policy.

Nintendo can surely improve lots, but I wouldn\'t trust Greenpeace to do a good measurement of anything.

Of course they do.
But government regulations on this stuff are always exceedingly easy to pass.

Not shocked, but yeh, gaming companies as a whole should be working be make the industry greener.

Didn't they already bag on N before, prompting them to release games in recyclable cases? So these Tree Huggers aren't even taking that into consideration?

It requires great courage to look at oneself honestly, and forge one's own path.

Whine, whine, whine, bongo, bongo, bongo. The reality is entropy is being helped along just by having people shite and breath. Environmentalists should just kill themselves because the truest environmentalists know the real solution: Destroy All Humans! Smilie

Greenpeace is a terrorist organization just ask Patrick Moore and Paul Watson.

Sony got a higher score because nobody actually owns or uses a PS3.

Bravo Nintendo & Microsoft. As for now I will stick to your products because I know you don't support terrorist groups like Greenpeace.Smilie
