EA Plans to Ditch Servers for Older Online Games on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

In a recent update to EA's Online Service FAQ, it's stated that they will be shutting down some of their servers for a lot of their older titles. Among the 25 of them, four Wii titles will be getting the ditch (listed below). The switch-off is planned for February 2nd 2010, so be sure to get them most out of them, before it happens.

Madden 08
Madden 09
NBA 08
NBA 09 (Europe Only)

EA have stated that owners of the games will still be able to play them online, up until the date of switch-off.

At first glance, I was a little outraged to think that EA would shut down a server for a game only a year old.. then common sense and some reasoning kicked in and I realised that 09 games come out in 08. I guess two years of support isn't so bad.

Not that I own these games, I just seem to get annoyed for other people. Even when they don't want/ask me to. Perhaps especially when they don't want me to.

Yeah...this is outrageous. They clearly don't respect wii owners and yet the PS2 version of Madden 09 is up just fine. I've seen my brother play it the other day.

Their only saving grace with me is that Wii's online support sucks.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
