All data is "fed" to the adapter via "Smart Media Cards". These cards can be purchased at convienence stores, much like a telephone card, or at electronics stores. The card itself stores data within "approximately 24 parts in capacity of 32 megabytes".

Video playback is of course, sharp and equals the clarity that you find on common household televisions. To get new content downloaded onto your "Smart Media Cards", the user pays a fee of about 200 Yen. Content varies, of course, but it doesn't appear as though you can download games into these cards.

The unit goes on "test sale" in Japan this May, with a full blown marketing blitz on track for the fall of 2003. The adapter itself will go on sale for about 2800 Yen, and the "Smart Media Cards" going for 2000 Yen. If all goes well, AM3 looks to expand its market into North America and Europe, although to what extent remains to be seen.
