Resident Evil 5 Might be Possible on Wii on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Capcom has stated that until now visually it would be impossible for RE5 Wii, but after Darkside Chronicles it might just be.

Masachika Kawata, producer of the fifth mainline Resident Evil, spoke to British mag GamesTM recently - and was asked the now age-old question: Would Resident Evil 5 work on the Wii?

Hypothetically speaking, the Resident Evil 4 engine would work perfectly for replicating the gameplay but we would never be able to recreate the graphical quality. A gun shooting game like Darkside Chronicles makes much more sense for Wii so, in short, Resident Evil 5 Wii Edition isn't likely to happen. Having said that, Cavia has surprised us with the quality of graphics in Darkside Chronicles, so it may actually be possible after all...

Thanks to Kotaku.

Would you like to to see Resident Evil 5 for Wii? Or should Capcom get on with it and go for the 6th installment/side-story?

Is RE5 only about the graphics? It sounds like if you strip the game of its HD look you loose the essence of the game. The only thing which would really bring the game down is the AI character that follows you. The reviews all say the AI was broken on the HD platforms. Can only imagine it would be diabolical on the wii.

Also everyone should boycot RE Archives. Its a straight port! no new control system. That means digital input for Walking!! Pre rendered backgrounds on a home console in 2009 and a £30 price tag equals Financial Rapists!

Well if it makes it possible to get a RE on Wii that ISN'T an on-rail shooter then why not ?

I'm not interested in any game which is purely about shotting stuff.
I also dont care a tose about graphical resolution or (technical) quality.

Make of those two facts what you will, capcom.

I suppose it needs to be said here as well:

Porting RE5 to Wii based on a souped up RE4 engine would more than likely mint gold ingots, dipped in platinum, and encrusted with diamonds for Capcom. Make well more than the cost of porting and fund another lack luster sequel on another system that will, initially, be "impossible" to bring to whatever Nintendo console is kicking around at the time.

How many times has Capcom said "it's possible" by now? I think I should start counting, they could break a world record for how many times they repeat the same meaningless phrase Smilie

The game wasn't that great on the 360 so why would I want it?

A lot of people enjoyed the 360/PS3 versions and there are a lot of people that want it to come out for Wii.

I don't want a stripped down port. Its supposedly not that great anyway.

That said, it really makes me wonder why they haven't built a real Resident Evil exclusive for Wii. They already have a great engine. I don't understand why they won't. RE4 sold over a million copies on Wii as an updated port that had already been ported twice before that. And Umbrella Chronicles -- a light gun spinoff -- sold a million as well. There's definitely an audience on the system for Resident Evil.

We cant expect exclusive fully fledge titles from well known franchises. Exclusive games are becoming rearer all the time. Just look at GTA
On rail first person guided experience games are a lot cheaper to make and thats why we get these instead. If they should some how not sell, its less of a loss. They are a step up from mini games (for their intentions) - cheap cash cows.

New game, please. There's no point in releasing a hackneyed port of a game designed for more powerful systems. It'll just further fuel people's perceptions that the Wii is not to be taken seriously. A new 3D game (NOT another "Chronicles" game) designed specifically for the Wii hardware and built on the RE4 engine would be much more desirable.

False hope. Certainly sounds like they're more likely to make another on-railer shoot 'em up. Sheva sucked up RE5 anyway. Smilie

I want a new RE using RE4's engineSmilie or a New RE Dead Aim which imo seems to be more suitable for Wii by Capcom's standards if you take into account that on-rail Wii games are/will not be as good as the ones in the arcades or use a light gun. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that feels this waySmilie

A lot of people watched the Resident Evil movie, didn't mean they were good.

I love their statements. Rail shooter makes more sense for a console (Wii) where a port of the gamecube masterpiece RE 4 sold 1.4 millions, but a "normal" RE makes more sense for a portable (PSP), where games hardly sell on the Western markets. I hate Capcom! Well RE 5 is crap anyway, so who cares?
