Sega's cheeky mascot, the fastest hedgehog on the planet, Sonic, has turned 18 today in Europe and North America.
He zipped into living rooms on June 23rd 1991 to start the original Sega Mega Drive / Genesis franchise that made him a success. As of November 2007, the debut game has sold over 4 million copies worldwide with the entire franchise selling over 50 million as of late last year.
We hope you'll join us in wishing the spiky chap a Happy 18th Birthday, as well as congratulating SEGA for all the success with Sonic over the years!
