Nintendo's WiiWare service appears to have well and truly shot up in popularity since SD cards can be used on Wii, and lots of news is pouring forth on new projects, both from smaller developers and some big names. First up is news of Gameloft's Sexy Poker heading to the download service, fresh off the back of success on mobile hand-sets. The German ratings board, USK, has recently listed the risque strip poker title for WiiWare, where you are in control of female poker players who shed their clothing the worse their performance is. But how far will the game be allowed to go by Nintendo's strict standards? Only time will tell.
Next up is some new information and a trailer for developer Exkee's project ColorZ. Here is what the developer has to say about the upcoming puzzle title, followed by the official trailer:
ColorZ is an original action/puzzle that brings a totally new experience of Gameplay thanks to Wii capacities. The game takes place in an alternative world full of round and colorful elements but a terrible event disturbed all the citizen; a new virus polluted the universe and created thousands of microbes. You must drive your UFO friends in order to clean all the different planets. The core concept is based on common light color addition and yet to be seen multiple entities management."
Following on from this, a flash-based rhythm-action game by the name of Ongaku is to be released by Smashmouth Games sometime this year. The player controls a musical character called Ongaku. and must hit notes in time to the music. Each note is represented on-screen by a coloured gem and when cleared, the gem's colour is dispersed onto the background canvas and paints a picture. Any notes missed result in the creation of a Feedback Monster, which then damages Ongaku's health. The goal of the game is to paint a complete picture on the background canvas for each of the game's levels.
Additionally there is a rumour that the arcade version of fan-favourite TMNT: Turtles in Time will be heading to WiiWare in the near future. Currently the new 3D side-scrolling remake of the game is only confirmed for an Xbox Live Arcade release, but there was talk at the recent New York Galabunga event that Konami is also set to bring it to Wii, presumably on WiiWare.
Finally, there is a little bit of speculation floating around about the release of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. Apparently the latest issue of Nintendo Power states "A New Moon Leads to a new destiny, Final Fantasy IV The After Years. Coming 6.1.09." Could this indeed be indicating that the WiiWare version of the hit Japanese mobile phone FFIV sequel will launch on 1st June in the US, or will that merely be when more information is revealed? Given the speed at which Square Enix is pouring games onto WiiWare right now (albeit mainly Taito games), it would not be too surprising.
