Monolith Soft Back with New Nintendo DS RPG on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Original Story - After working with Bandai Namco on Infinite Frontier Super Robot Wars OG Saga for the Nintendo DS, Monolith Soft is back with another Role Playing Game for Nintendo's portable system for the company. This time round Famitsu magazine has confirmed that the team behind the likes of Baten Kaitos, Disaster: Day of Crisis and Soma Bringer will be working with the Dragon Ball franchise for a game called Dragon Ball Kai: Saiyajin Raishuu. Barely any details are known right now, other than that the story will be brand new, instead of based upon the manga and anime.

What would you like to see from this new take on Dragon Ball?

Update - The first trailer of the game has now been released and can be seen below:

Dragon Ball Kai, from Bandai Namco and developer Monolith Soft, is set for a 29th April release in Japan. More details can be found, in Japanese, on the game's newly launched official website.

Meh.

I'd rather learn about their upcoming Wii RPG.

Uuhm,, Clicky?

Found this when I googled the word "raishuu", curious about what it meant.
Could that possibly be it?

Well, I'm thrilled to see anything Monolith is working on. I certainly wouldn't have guessed Dragon Ball, but I'll stick around and see how it turns out. I'll probably be watching the new anime when it premieres too. I never did catch up with the original series.

They said so to French website Gamekyo.com in an interview made after the european release of Disaster : Day of Crisis. But they couldn't reveal any information on the topic back then.

But it's been some months now since this interview. So what's up at the moment ? That was my point.

They've told C3 before they were working on 'multiple' Wii games, and after Disaster they were to head back to RPGs...so 2+2 = ... Smilie

Looks like Final Fantasy, mixed with battles sorta like Mario and Luigi. Might be worth a go.

Youtube's resolution seems to have improved.

look really good

,, Being a huge DB/DBZ-fan,, I can only utter a slightly disappointed 'meh' when seeing this,, :-/

Oh, and looking at the blurb for this article, I keep misreading it as "working on 'Infinite SPACE'". God, if they were working on Infinite Space, that'd be amazing. I hope at least Yasumi Matsuno is working on it. Platinum can do a bitchin' action game, alright, but I'm not entirely confident about their ability to craft a deep, memorable and most of all, philosophically complex story.

The last time Toriyama-san worked with people from Monolith Soft was when Chrono Trigger was created...so I'm quite intrigued as to how this pans out. Also, since it's not Nintendo publishing this, we definitely know it'll get a Western release! Smilie
