Resident Evil Wii Fans to be "Very Happy" on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Resident Evil fans without Xboxes or PlayStation can grab future slices of zombie action on the Wii, soon.

The latest part of the story, Resident Evil 5, has pretty much been ruled out for port or version for Wii, but Capcom's Associate Product Marketing Manager, Matt Dahlgren has promised hope for those unable to play the game: "Nintendo Wii fans will be very happy very soon."

It's uncertain what it'll be - likely contenders are a sequel to Umbrella Chronicles, or one of the classic Wii ports being translated for the Western market. According to Kotaku, one of the options could be Code Veronica.

Nothing is planned for the game regarding a remake on PSN/XBLA, but what I can say is if you are a fan of Code Veronica you should pay attention in the next couple of weeks there is some news you should be very pleased with.

Something is said to be coming on March 12th 2009...

Thanks to Joystiq for the tip.

The Wii has a lot of survival horror games Smilie

More Resident Evil is awesome, but I hope it's a new game of some sort and not a UC sequel.

.:Zelda Adventures:.
u guys are DNA.

Interesting. A Code Veronica X REmake then? Isn't Veronica X widely considered the low point to the series? Smilie In which case it figures they'd go with that one for Wii fans.Smilie

I'm still angry with Capcom and all their broken promises, "exclusive" titles, and other general kick in the nuts Ninty fans have been having to put up with from good ol' Capcom for the past several years. Sure, they have done a few nice things for us here and there. But compared to Xbox & PS fans? Come on... :-x

Chance favors the prepared mind.

Meh, not much of an RE fan, but I'm always happy to see everyone get something.

I think it almost has to be a remake of 2, 3, or Code Veronica X. Since 5 just came out, I doubt that they would announce the next chapter so soon (assuming there is a next chapter, I don't know anything about how 5 ends), or announce it for the Wii.

I also doubt an UC sequel is due (although I really enjoyed UC and would like to see a sequel of some kind) b/c what other parts of the story could they cover in a sequel? So much of the back-story is covered in UC (RE0, RE, RE3, Original content), could they possibly give the same light-gun treatment to RE2, RE4, RE: CVX or possibly RE5??? I guess its possible, but for some reason, I just kind of doubt it.

I'm hoping for a remake of RE2, RE3, or RE: CVX in the style of RE4. Here's hoping for a great announcement!

I dunno, it would seem almost anti-climatic to say that Wii fans would be "very happy" and then announce a port of an older game in the series..I'm hoping it is something new.

i'd honestly be amazed if anyone expected a Wii port of re5. It wasn't ever going to happen really. Why not reward the wii with some sort of completely unique RE series? No connections to the main series, just an entirely new series for the wii owners with the same work of a main game.

Aki-T spilt the water.

It'll be something relatively non-comparible to Resi 5 - such as a box set of remakes or some shitty additional on-rails shooter.

Twud be impressive if it was an a brand spankin new Resi.

A whole new "custom" resident evil, like 4. No remakes, on rails, or move like a truck on pre rendered backgrounds.

Remmber the class that was re4, capcom. Use that very same re4 wii engine to create something sooo so beautiful.

Or, go for cash and watch me, ironically, not buy the game.

I'm seriously not worried about RE5, hated the Demo... and the controls... ew. Shame because the 360 has some really good shooters with decent controls, and RE5 feels more like a shooter war type than Resident Evil... which is a letdown since I'm a diehard fan of the series.

Hopefully the next installment or the Wii RE will be good.

Or let's not use the RE4Wii engine. It still looked like the GC version, so I'd rather see them create something with punchier graphics.

The gameplay-style of RE4 I'm not opposed to at all, though. Completed that game around 20 times,, Felt good, man.

L4D coming to Wii???!!!

A 'proper' new game is not going to happen. They'll release the old games in a marginally REmade form. Probably separately to rape fans as much as possible, but possibly over a few discs. It'll be dubbed a REvue.

In fact, it'll just be Code Veronica. They'll think they can get away with Dreamcast-level visuals without touching them.

Less posty, more gamey.

If they do that, my faith in Capcom will drop, but wasn't Code Veronica already released on GC? Would Capcom hype up the same move like this? Releasing RE 2, 3 and CV on GC wasn't that big a deal was it?

Why would Wii owners be happy for constant remakes or another chronicles. If People are pining for RE5 why would a game thats already been played before or an on-rail game suffice. Are they so out of touched with consumers? all you have to do is read any forum to know what people want!
Call a spade a spade dont spew media crap. You dont want to invest in a ground up game similare to RE4 because its cheaper and less risky.

I bought chronicles and got bored so I placed it back in the wrapper and returned it to game. No plans to buy another or a remake.

Code Veronica turned into a RE4 style survival horror? I can see that happening, but I would like to see a new RE game on the Wii, something that would utilize the Wii's functionality fully. How long are they gonna keep dishing out the remakes?

Code Veronica on rails, or some other shitty remake.

That's what I'm thinking too, which is disappointing if you see all the great ideas from Zack&Wiki that can be put to some good use in the RE series(puzzle wise). I'm more excited for Monster Hunter Tri anywaySmilieSmilie

Interesting perhaps its the famous RE2 remake rumour I've be hearing so much about, either way I'll be happy with what it is Smilie

A resi 2 and 3 updates would be nice - like they said would happen on the GC

Eh I never heard that. Proof? Why would they give us the whole fucking series on Gamecube just to release remakes of them later?

First - Resi 5 not impossible on Wii. Doesn't even look that much better than 4, which was on a system half as powerful.
Second: If it's a rail shooter, or a remake, I will most definitely NOT be "very happy." In fact, I'd have to go Isaac Washington on some Capcom guys.
Third: Code Veronica was kind of blah. I didn't finish it. It failed to grab me like the others did.

My prediction: If it isn't a rail shooter, or a remake, or a port of a remake (see RE0 Wii) then either it's going to be something original which is amazing, something original that blows, or some Capcom guy will just take it back in a few days (see "Our box art isn't lying" and "RE5 Wii is definitely happening.")

Not sure what part you want proof of, but Resident Evil 2, 3 and CV have been ported to the Cube. With the same graphics etc. For almost full price (at least here in Europe). That was pretty stupid.

I seem to remember Code Veronica being a very big deal on the Dreamcast when it came out because it was fully 3D. I think that impact was lost on the re-releases because it was old news at that point. I actually enjoyed the game when I played it on the Dreamcast and found the final areas (the ones that were never advertised) very creepy. I never played the GC version.

Also, the twist revelation about the main villain in the game was classic horror movie coolness.

happy???

unless it's on par with Overkill (if it is another rails) i won't be too happy at all. UC was an ok game, but to get another game that has already been out...blank years ago...HOW CAN I BE HAPPY!!!

but as expected from good ol capcom. (i'll never forgive them for the GC years. :-x )

-make it count- Hey if you wanna play Wii Games with me, check out my game portion of my profile and pm me if you wanna add me so I can add you!

I hear March 12th is the announcement date. That's a day before RE5 comes out, over here. So, marketwise, if it's RE5 Wii, that's a bad decision. You'd think they'd want people to buy RE5 in droves, the day it comes out. But it would be great for the fans, if they announced a Wii version before it comes out for the other systems, so people who only have a Wii don't spend tons of money buying a new system for Resident Evil. Maybe Capcom actually learned something from everyone being pissed off when RE4 came out for PS2 after they had bought Gamecubes to play it (one reason, I believe, that Mikami left Capcom to begin with.) That would be cool.
