Hudson Abandons Virtual Console - To Concentrate on Wiiware on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

In what may be sad news to many VC players, Hudson have dropped all Virtual Console support outside of Japan, in order to focus on Wiiware.

Unfortunately this covers all Virtual Console platforms, including Nintendo consoles. This also may mean that Hudson games already available in Japan will not be released on western Virtual Consoles within the forseeable future.

As a little reminder on the plus side, Hudson's new Adventure Island title for Wiiware will be released around this coming April. Stick to C3 for more.

... why can't they support both? Smilie

Who knows, it's not as if supporting Virtual Console really takes much time, is it?

All they're doing is re-releasing finished games. Not saying it's as simple as that, but it can't be a job worth a whole team of people.

It could be that bringing Turbo-Grafx games to the VC was proving too costly with little gained in return...There is some debate as to whether or not Hudsons SNES/NES content will be held back as well as TG16 stuff.

According to comments made by Capcom's US arm, Nintendo picks up the rights to all SNES/NES/N64 games from a company and then picks and chooses what to release. When it comes to the C64, MS/MD and TG16, though, Commodore, SEGA and Hudson have to front the costs of the emulator, getting the licenses sorted and paying for new or renewed ESRB ratings.

Well, its not all bad then. I think its better that they focus on Wiiware...new content > old content in most cases.

Still, I have no real knowledge of the Wiiware games Hudson is making, so maybe this is bad news. Smilie

Are there any great Hudson games not yet released?

Super Bomberman is nowhere to be seen. Those were awesome. Smilie

I wanted Super Bomberman.Smilie

So I guess this means my hopes for Super Bomberman 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 coming soon are most likely not happening... Really want to play 3-5 as they weren't localized in the West... Smilie
