The latest Rare mailbag has some interesting tidbits on Banjo Pilot/Kazooie, Dinosaur Planet and Diddy Kong Racing.
The November 5th Scribes includes a pretty much decline for a Banjo Pilot sequel, no plans for Banjo on Nintendo's virtual console and some neat behind-the-scenes info into Dinosaur Planet (which became Star Fox Adventures).
Discussing Banjo Pilot sequel:
Nevertheless, requests for Banjo Pilot 2 don't come along every day, even wholly impractical ones. Let's see what someone who worked on the original game has to say on the matter: "No."I'm afraid I can't clarify whether that's "no" to the inclusion of every single Banjo character, "no" to any possibility of a sequel whatsoever, or just a "no" of quiet horror at your typing.
Future DS projects:
We have nothing to disclose on DS projects at the moment, but I'd say big brand spin-offs would be more likely than all-new properties, the DS market being so vast that the extra push of recognisable IP is often needed to help a title stand out. But who knows? One of our designers might come up with a brilliant idea for a stylus-controlled game about wafting aside clouds of cow flatulence, and we'd be off like a shot.
Diddy Kong Racing, Dinosaur Planet and Star Fox Adventures
The only ones that come to mind are two characters that we designed early on but never followed through with - one was a pantomime horse and the other was a baby mammoth.Yes, they started out as the same character as Dino Planet was initially a 'sequel' to DKR (it was called something else too but I can't really remember). It even had Wizpig in it again. Then it changed to more dinos and Tricky stuck around, then it changed to Star Fox and we really should have renamed him but didn't.
Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie Hitting Wii's Virtual Console
No immediate plans to put Kazooie or Tooie on Virtual Console, as you might expect now that they're both due out on Xbox Live Arcade.
Thanks to GoNintendo for the tip.
