Pokémon Platinum Still Running Riot in Japan

By Adam Riley 17.10.2008 6

Nintendo's Pokémon Platinum may have been budged from the top spot this week in Japan, but it is still rampaging through the country with strong sales that will undoubtedly beat out the lifetime totals of Pokémon Crystal and Emerald. Rhythm Tengoku Gold is also on the cusp of breaking the million mark, something nobody could have predicted given the limited sales of the GBA version. Elsewhere, Level-5's fantastic football RPG has creeped over the 100,000 mark now, whilst SEGA's high profile RPG World Destruction is not far from the 100,000 milestone.

13.) Wii Sports (Wii, Nintendo) - Now within reach of the 3.2 million mark, according to Famitsu

46.) Mana-Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis Portable+ (PSP, Gust)
47.) We are Fossil Diggers (NDS, Nintendo) - Still hanging around, and could get a boost as the holidays approach
48.) Jikkyou Power Pro Major League 3 (Wii, Konami)
49.) Tales of Vesperia (360, Namco Bandai) - Whilst it is still hanging on, sales of this mainline entry do not match the Wii's spin-off game

This Week | Last Week | 2008 Sales | Lifetime Sales
Nintendo DS - 31,914 | 42,385 | 2,438,705 | 23,611,759
PlayStation Portable - 23,901 | 26,045 | 2,833,146 | 10,498,223
Wii - 22,877 | 25,330 | 2,238,365 | 6,854,504
Xbox 360 - 7,763 | 8,271 | 204,929 | 713,374
PlayStation 2 - 6,982 | 8,618 | 398,011 | 21,325,051
PlayStation 3 - 5,734 | 7,232 | 695,216 | 2,336,892

With Wii Music set to hit Japan soon, it will be interesting to see how much of an effect its launch has on the somewhat stagnant Wii hardware sales. Clearly the launch of the DSi in November has yet to knock sales of the DS either, with this merely being an all-round slow week. Stay tuned for further Japanese chart updates...

Pokemon Platinum will be great for me, especially considering my tragic Diamond incident. It\'s definitely good news that it\'s selling so well already

Platinum is just what I need to get me back into 4th gen Pokemon. :3 It can\'t come out here quickly enough.

Ahhh I didn't know this was released.... so when is it coming over here anyone knows?!?!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Nope, but if past releases are anything to go by, it won\'t be out in Europe for over a year.

So thank the Pokégod for importing.

EDIT: Seems like the áccént glitch has returned.

I think Nintendo Power has Pokémon Platinum as a Spring 2009 US release...

Awesome that Platinum is doing well. I'm looking forward to it. Smilie

And I hope One Piece: Unlimited Cruise does well, I want an english release of that sooooo badly. Smilie

This is something like the 5th week in a row that the Xbox 360 has out-sold the PS3 in Japan...(I think), which is a record!
