New Wii RPG: Ohgon no Kizuna

By Shane Jury 28.08.2008 2

A new Role-Playing title for Nintendo's Wii has been revealed by Jaleco, under the name of Kizuna.

From 1up, the story of the game is based as follows;

Ougon no Kizuna is set in the kindgom of Navigatoria, which has been under threat from the evil demon lord Galvaran for ages. A great hero, Gelade, successfully encased Galvaran in a tree of crystal in the last war, but went missing in the process. The monsters are back, though, and this time it's Gelade's emotionless son Rian who soldiers to the rescue, along with the stubborn, tomboyish Princess Ayna and her personal tutor Mist.

The game's title is Japanese for "bonds of gold," and the story's central theme revolves around the bonds Rian forges with the people he meets during his quest. The main story mode's divided into chapters, and there's over 100 additional quests to undertake, running the gamut from simple errands to monster-slaying expeditions. Details are still scant, but the "bonds" you create in filling these quests play a major role in the game -- sometimes they'll help you out when Rian is alone in battle, in fact.

Kizuna will use a unique Pencil effect as its Graphical base, not unlike the new Prince of Persia titles, and it consists of Action-based battles, with the Remote's pointer used to aim at enemies. You'll fight them in swarms, with a meter that fills up to unleash a Stronger attack, similar to the Dynasty Warrior games. Also, you'll fight massive, lumbering bosses at the end of each chapter that are a puzzle in themselves to defeat, a nod to Shadow of the Colossus.

There are a couple of big names associated with this title too. Miwa Shouda is the Scenario Writer, of whom also worked on Final Fantasy XII and the Saga Frontier series. And Yoichi Kawaguchi, an ex-Level-5 worker who is also making Little King's Story, is the Director.

Be sure to check out scans of the title here and here.

Since everyone complains about Wii's approach to fail in picturing realistic graphics, this style may add to great visuals.
And I like the PoP graphics a lot. Shame it doesn't come out on Wii...

The main character may be funny to play, being emotionless. There's a chance of great plotthreads head. I surely stay focused to this title, since RPGs on Wii are very rare.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!
