Co-Op Play for Wii Call of Duty 5

By Jorge Ba-oh 23.06.2008 23

The latest Call of Duty for Wii will be receiving co-operative play and multiplayer support.

From the looks and sounds of things it seems that the Wii version of the intense war-themed shooter will feature an array of modes to try and keep as close to the high-definition versions as possible. Developer Treyarch recently discussed the title, revealing delicious morsels of information on the Wii version. It'll be using a ported version of the Modern Warfare engine and have support for the Wii zapper shell.

A specialised team at Treyarch will be focusing specifically on Wii, ensuring "for all intents and purposes it's the same game" as the Xbox 360 and PS3 outings.

It's going to look better than any Wii game I've ever seen on the market.

Well there's a good start, multiplayer and co-op.

Yup.

The begining of the traier was almost like the begining on Resident evil.

It needs WiFi aswell. They keep saying it will look great, but I'm not buying it until I see it in action.

The thing is with lots of Wii games, you never see anything of them right up to release. It's a bit worrying. It gets me thinking we won't see anything of the Wii version for yonks.

Yes, but is it going to look better than a GameCube game?...

*Hand-beckons Noah Heller* Bring on the bull-shots, bitch!

>>. and nothing like that trailer despite what they say.

Oh well, it's definitely a good attitude for a developer to have. As close to the 360 or PS3 versions as possible? Whether they're doing all they can or just doing a good job, their intentions are pretty admirable if you ask me.

Twitter | C3 Writer/Moderator | Backloggery

Yes, SuperLink. Some developer finally have that attitude. It's a good one.
I actually hope there was some ingame footage hidden somewhere in the trailer, since if there is, then it is that good that I didn't recognize it...

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

If they pull it off then it would be a great start for future games....if not.....oh well

As said above, Wi-Fi is a must. At least as good as MoH:H2 Online. If not, then FAIL!Smilie

And that also says it all about the game effort. Smilie

Wii has online capabilities. Shit as they are it's not as close to the PS360 version as it can be without WiFi.

I doubt it will have large online multiplayer, or indeed CoOp, the lack of the word online in this statement is worrying.

This \"special\" team at Treyarch, sounds more like a low level team. Treyarch are as bad as it is, it\'s hardly reassuring to Wii owners knowing they get the worst of their lot working on the game. I have little hope for this version, I have little hope for the current gen versions also.

What I\'ve heard is that its online (interview on CVG) on Wii but that the co-op is two player only, while its four-player for the other consoles and PC. Maybe to keep framerate/effects up they couldn\'t do four player?

Here\'s the interview:

How\'s the Wii version coming along?

Farrelly: It is the Modern Warfare engine ported to Wii. Not some special thing - we\'ll be showing it soon. I think it looks better than any Wii game on the market so far. It\'s a special team at Treyarch focused specifically on the Wii - it\'s not some outsourced team, not some group living in another country. These guys live, eat and breathe Wii.

They\'re doing a lot of control work and developing a lot of special technology to make sure that you\'re able to find the enemy as quickly as possible. We\'ll be supporting the Zapper, which is very challenging in CoD because you\'ve got three buttons when you\'re using the Zapper.

We\'ve got a unique co-op mode and we\'ll support multiplayer. This is going to be easily the best shooter on Wii.

So it\'s fully online enabled like the other versions?

Farrelly: Absolutely. You can\'t have CoD without it. It can\'t be a robust as next-gen consoles, but we\'re trying our best not to make a compromise there.

We\'ve got a great engine that can go onto multiple platforms. You have to do a bit more to get it onto the Wii, but for all intents and purposes it\'s the same game.

So it will be the same in terms of content to the other versions?

Farrelly: Yes. There may be instances where we, say, can\'t have 48 Russians attacking you at the same time because of the power restriction. But in those instances we\'ll go into it and say \"how do we make this experience good for the Wii player?\"

And from Eurogamer:
That goes for the Xbox 360, PS3 or PC versions, which will also offer two-player split-screen co-op. The Wii game will have its own \"unique\" two-player co-op mode.

Let\'s face it, the Wii is limited, at least they\'re trying. Also they say that they\'ll be showing it soon, so it seems less likely they\'re bullshitting.

Star Wars Battlefront PS2 FTW

Lol, "unique" being 1 person controls the movements while the other person shoots. Smilie

Well it's encouraging to see that they are doing the best they can with the Wii hardware.

graphically will probs just be COD3 with bloom

Wow, you're an optimistic fellow, Fenton. Smilie

Sorry, but split screen + proper co-op is much prefered.
They can claim what they like about graphics, but Rogue Squadron 3 did split-screen co-op fine, and it was good enough looking on a system with almost half the cpu/gpu/ram.

"Wii has online capabilities. Shit as they are"

you know, on pc, developers handel online themselfs without looking for the hardware maker to give them severs, chatrooms or lobbys.
Normaly they are in game just fine.

That's exactly what came to my mind when I read that. If it is true this will be a serious low for the Wii.

Hmmm. Its gonna be crap because they went back to World War. That is reason enough for me to avoid it on any console and stick with COD4!

My pictures wont appear so heres a smiley

Now that you mention it, it's certain to be Galaxy/Lost Winds CoOp. Unique? Please.

Twitter | C3 Writer/Moderator | Backloggery

Maybe the co-op is like a lightgun shooter, like in MOH on the Wii. only i'm not sure that was co-op.

God I hope not. Those modes were hopelessly tacked on. Just give us a standard two-player co-op and I'll be happy, though I suspect if they were really trying they'd be including four-player.
