MadWorld Trailer: B/W Wii Action Horror

By Jorge Ba-oh 16.05.2008 9

Sega have released the debut trailer for the Platinum Games developed Wii horror action title, MadWorld.

As part of the company's agreement to bring new franchises to the table, MadWorld tells the gory tale of Jack. He's no ordinary chap. Unlike most Jacks in the world, he lugs about a chainsaw for an arm and by waggling the Wii Remote about can unleash brutal attacks on enemies.

Graphically, the game is played out in high-contrast black and white style, akin to Frank Miller's comic book series Sin City, using buckets of red blood to bring across a high dose of blood and guts.

Shigenori Nishikawa gave a brief overview of the project:

wish I could forget Dino Crisis 3. Hello everyone, I'm Shigenori Nishikawa, and I'm the director of Madworld. Madworld is made of two key concepts. The first key concept within Madworld is the stark, black and white graphics. This is to further emphasize the violence, as presented by the stark red blood.

And the other key concept that we didn't want to create a game that was depraved or perverse, but rather, feature comical, over the top violence so that anyone would enjoy it. [laughs]

Madworld, even as a producer, is a new challenge for me. As was mentioned earlier, we didn't want to produce a dark and perverse game, but one that was over-the-top and comical. We felt that the Wii was missing this exact type of game in its lineup, so we felt that this would be a perfect fit.

MadWorld is being developed exclusively for Wii.

10/10! Can't wait.

I will buy this even if it's crap. The fact that they're willing to create an original IP on the Wii and actually try to create a core game is enough for me.

I'm just hoping it doesn't fucking get censored like No More Heroes...bloody ridiculous.

Looks cheesy but fun! Smilie

tiamat1990,

I\'ll repeat what I said to you in the other thread about Madworld, when you made exactly the same point about No More Heroes. No More Heroes was not censored, it was self-censored.

The Japanese, sans blood, version was released in PAL territories because Rising Star was the publisher and it\'s part of Marvellous, who were the Japanese publishers. If Ubisoft had picked up the rights over here, we would\'ve had the \'blood included\' version no question.

It was a publisher choice, not an BBFC/PEGI enforced change. It was probably made for financial reasons, perhaps simply to avoid having to go through the BBFC ratings system at all (it\'s an expensive process, which isn\'t required by law unless the game contains graphic depictions of gore, iirc).

Note that RE4 was released uncut in the UK, but was censored in Japan. The violence in that game is far more graphic than anything in NMHs.

EDIT: On topic, this game looks very, very promising. Love the details about the \'gameshow\' aspects.
