I'd rather see Nintendo pool it's resources into creating new titles. A Link to the Past is one of the best 2d games ever. I don't think they could make it any better.
The father of all things The Legend of Zelda, Shigeru Miyamoto, has expressed a desire to see The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past remade.
Of all the candidates in the franchise's 25 year history that pop up as suggestions for a remake, the 1991 2D Zelda game is one that sits proudly at the top of the list. The iconic SNES game did receive a port on the Game Boy Advance, however series producer Eiji Aonuma has hoped to revisit the game on more than one occasion.
Now series creator Miyamoto also wants to develop "something new maybe based on, or starting from, A Link To The Past." The game could be rethought as a more contemporary 3D Zelda adventure, or perhaps a 3DS classics take.
Some directors, I can give them the title and I know they will do something great with it. Other directors I’m not so 100 per cent confident [in], so they’re the ones I’d rather take a more remake approach to the title. It really depends on that as well.
Would you like to see A Link to the Past remade into a 3D adventure in the style of Ocarina of Time etc? Or a new 2D-styled adventure along the same lines as the original?

A Link to the Past II, please.
This would be awesome, I wouldn't mind a 3D remastering at all. A Link to the Past is my favorite Zelda & the best one over all I feel, sure hope this happens...though I wonder if Nintendo will be so bold as to keep Link's hair PINK like it was in the original.
What's the point?
ALTTP is a classic, leave it that way. Zelda should be moving forward creating new ideas while using elements that we love. Not worrying about remakes.
gezz. NEW why is that a dirty word?
Lttp is fine, its a waste to remake it.
Aren't there a lot of enthusiastic hobbyists remaking classic games all the time with some spectacular results? But I think they're told to stop their efforts.
What's the problem with setting up some sort of competition for those kind of people to create remakes and rewarding it with an official release of sorts?
Anybody researched the business side of that? It seems like a win situation to me.
Who else think that Nintendo will reveal the LttP remake at E3? They've been talking about this for years now. I'm pretty sure this is the 3rd or 4th time I hear about it.
I really really prefer a new game... on the other hand, if I had to choose between a 3Dmake of LttP and another PH/ST, I'd choose the 3Dmake.
To be honest, I really don't want to see anything in the Zelda series.
Remember the game in development by Rare called Dinosaur Planet? How exciting that was to see? Then having the star fox muppets slapped onto it with a couple of space arwing missions inserted?
That's how I feel about these 20, 30 year old video game characters. I don't know about you Nintendo fans, but after just 2 Jurassic Park movies I get bored already. Yeah we know, dinosaurs versus men on island, something something about impact of man on nature, yadda yadda. What about Fred, the paralysed midget on a quest to save the world from bad pavements and narrow shop corridors? Anything, really.
Please don't make it 3D. It's a 2D classic and I want it to stay that way. Actually, it's already on the GBA and Virtual Console, I don't think we need another version. A sequel would be sweet though.
I wouldn't mind a re-imagining of it in 3D, would be cool to play through in the Ocarina --> SS engine.

I think by 3D he means adding depth to a 2D world, not turning it into an Ocarina-esque game. It would still be in top-down 2D perspective.

The re-branding hurt it for sure - but it would have been a mediocre Zelda style game either way, it didn't have any unique or special features from those early previews. New characters arnt anything on their own.
Beyond Good and Evil would be a better example of something that beat Zelda in its own generation.

Yeah, as everyone knows finalised games are 99% comparable to early previews of those games. Furthermore this was a company, (Rareware or something? Even the name sounds shit to be honest) who obviously couldn't be trusted to come up with anything original AND playable, judging from their past work.

I bought Beyond Good and Evil back then, didn't really want to. But vocal gamers kept going on about it so I thought I'd try it. Didn't like it.
I learned not only from that example but also from games like Majora's Mask and every game that keeps coming up on the internet as such a fantastic game, that I will not like it. Whenever people go on about how amazing such and such game is that didn't sell amazing(ly enough), it now automatically triggers a response in my brain to avoid that game like the plague.
In my opinion, vocal gamers who claim to have taste in games actually have the shittiest taste. I think they know that though, and it's probably why they have to compensate so much by talking about their shitty taste in games whenever the oppurtunity arises.
So you didnt like Beyond Good and Evil then? Care to say why?
Personaly I found it, though shorter, a heck of a lot more fun then Wind Waker.
It had,in principle, the same sort of gameplay, but the pacing and the structure was a lot faster and less repetitive.
Nothing wrong with not liking something, but if your going to criticism me for having a counter point, please explain why.
As for dinosaur planet, you have yet to say why you found it more exciting then Zelda. My point was not that the early previews where enough to judge the end game - my point was there was nothing to get excited about gameplay wise from them.
Ocarina excited me for being the first 3d zelda, for having a vast overworld to explore (for the time) and for what looked like a lot of great puzzles.
Majoras Mask excited me for the time travel aspect. I liked the idea of playing about with peoples lives in a groundhog day style way.
Mario Galaxy- non liner gravity.
Portal - umm...the portals.
Skyward Sword - 1:1 swordfighting/puzzles
etc.
What excited you about Dinosaur Planet gameplay wise compared to all those zelda games?

Too much cheese dialogue, too much cliche movie character acting. Really shallow humour, the fart joke is just cringe worthy.
Had a hard time concentrating on the story, because the characters were so uninteresting and unsympathetic. There was quite a lot of variety in gameplay which I did like.
As for dinosaur planet, what excited me back then was dinosaur planet. I didn't compare it with Zelda, it was a new original game by Rare focused around dinosaurs. That was exciting to me then.
It looked new, it felt new. After 20 years of a boy with a green hat collecting rupees, yeah, that's actually really important. Rare were creating amazing new games, Nintendo were putting out amazing classics, both polishing em to perfection.
