Robs about right. Whenever there is a good week in Japan the GC will shift over 10, 000. Poorer weeks can be 4/6, 000. Sometimes the PS1 outsells the xbox with only 200 sales!

Does anyone know what the current sales figures are for games consoles? Is there a site where they are shown and updated regularly?Apparantly XBox sales had been around the 15,000 mark after it's price drop. In recent figures for total sales, PS2 had outsold the GC by 5:1. Even XBox was outselling GC, and this included the Japanese market that has little interest in buying anything games wise unless it's made in Japan, (or so it would seem).

What your asking is a very difficult thing. The only time any real stats come out are at the end of year fiscal statements - officially from the companys involved and usually at the end of April time.
This is the last official info I have for you, and it aint precise (basically the best I can remember!):
End of fiscal year 2004, April.
PS2 - Sold 70 Million
GC - Sold 15 Million
XBOX - Sold 13.5 Million
So your PS2 5:1 ratio over GC is about right.
I can remember that earlier on this year Nintendo's GC had outsold the XBOX worldwide by 1/1.5 Million.
In Japan the GC is outselling the XBOX, a the least, more than 10:1. Sometimes 30:1!
But of course the overall worldwide figures will have changed a bit in favour of XBOX - but I honestly don't think it'll be enough to have overtaken the GC. They often jostle (sp) at various times (weekly sales) with various releases/Price drops also - depending on what unofficial sources you read! safe to say the XBOX and GC are selling roughly the same weekly just now, 10/15.000.
Also of Note was that Nintendo, at the end of the first financial quarter this year, were making massive profits still and this was after a slow period - they made 22.6 Billion Yen. Nintendo still remain the most profitable games company by a very large amount.
Sony's Games division recorder a loss of a couple of Billion Yen and are set to loose alot of Money over the next year or two.
And of course M$ have IMO very illegally entered the business failing to ever make a profit and in fact make hundreds of millions of dollars worth of losses consistently.

I think basically it depends what you like, PS2 and XBOX are fairly similar, gamecube is quite different, I think the majority of gamers are lucky enough to be able to enjoy gaming with one console, a few will need two, and the unluckiest will need 3.
there are also people who just buy the wrong console, I know one guy sold his GC for a PS2, and is now looking to sell that to buy a XBOX, and it wouldn't surprise me if he sells that a few months later.
basically look at the consoles, make an informed (non impulse) decision. only 2 games appeal to me on the xbox, with 0 on the PS2, so I'm fairly happy with my cube, but I can see how some people may need 2 consoles to be able to play all the games they want to play.
what I did when buying my cube was to decide if I would buy enough games to make the console itself worth it, you should do the same with the xbox. it may be buying one game will make the xbox worth it in your mind, it may be 20, 30, 40, 100.
though I don't really know why I replied, everyone is capable of making a decision, just use your noodle, you know what matters to you better than anyone else
I figured (from experience!) that most third party games are rubbish anyway, and you can always rely on Nintendo to make at least a few good games a year.
Slipping? Not really. I think people on Nintendo boards tend to make a bigger deal about getting a new system because they want to stir the sleeping lion that is the Nintendo Loyalist. Or they see it as a giant leap in their life and want to share it with everyone.
For it to slip, the people would have had to get rid of their Gamecube for the X-box, which a few have but they're the minority in this sample, did you mean to say the X-box is getting more respect amongst Gamecube owners? Because that would be true. It's a powerful machine, it deserves at least a little respect. Heck, i convinced my brother to buy one instead of a Gamecube. Because i KNOW he's going to enjoy it more. As a rule of thumb, for me to buy a console it has to have at least 20 titles that i would purchase. GC has about 70, at last count, X-box has ~6 and PS2 has ~8.
To be COMPLETELY honest, i didn't realy many of the posts in the thread. It was kinda hurting my brain. People have been screaming doom at Nintendo for years, and i have a feeling they'll be screaming DOOOOOOMMMMM for many years to come. Just read IGN's thoughts, they just complain about the same things, over and over and over and over I really do pitty that dead horse.
Has anyone ever thought about what Nintendo could actually do? Or if it would be cost effective with the next console comming in 2 years? Other than a hard-core fanbase most people will do what they always do, buy impulsively. So instead of burning their money now, they could save it and do what they've done with the DS, which is selling by the bucket-load, even with a lack-lustre launch line in many peoples opinions.
To go of on a completely different tanget, i don't think the Sony name carries as much weight as it used to. In the Australian electronics market their name is a joke. I have a cousin that works in an electronics store, and we laugh at them together. Their products aren't the best quality, and their products are largley faulty. I have a few stories from friends and family about their products. Sony are loosing their reputation due to poor engineering.
On a side, perhaps irrelevant, note i thought i would add this:
You know if Microsoft lose out on the next-box they'll cancel the line, right? Companies are there to make money if they lose more then once on a product they aren't going to continue it. The reason they are continuing on in the next round is because they have a user-base now, and they have already made their major purchases (companies, exclusivity rights) or one-time costs, as they call it in Business. Though if the recuring costs out-weigh the revenue you can be assured that Billy boy will drop it like a sack of potatos. Microsoft may have alot of money, but i'm pretty sure they wanna keep it that way, paying out on a system just because they can is kinda... well... friggen stupid that's what it is. If they're still loosing money with a large initial place in the market, how are they going to survive? Though they are taking obvious steps to remedy this, like dropping the Hard Drive. So don't get your panties all tangled in anxiety.
Anyway, i'm anxious and on edge at the moment, i get my university results in 12 hours and i need specific marks to transfer uni's. So i'm nervous and edgy, so take this post with a grain of salt.
Arkyris.
Sony's name was damaged in my eyes when the first Wega flat tube tv's were launched.
They were cool but went wrong so often that people stopped buying them until they updated them.
The problem for Sony electronics is that e gap between the brands is much smaller now. When the Sony tv i own came out, they were far and away the best; and well worth the extra money.
Whereas now, Toshiba and Panasonic are virtually just as good for less money. And even cheaper companies like LG and Phillips are producing good sets at value prices.
hmm.
Rickard, can you post stuff that is relevant and actually matters, not justs "hmm."
And as I've said before, if the new LOZ was out now many wouldn't be buying an Xbox but staying firmly with their 'Cubes. In a mere space of months, arguably the best games of this generation, HALO 2 and GTAA, have come onto the street, and as gamers you have to be aware of them, and want to get a piece of them. It was just like when OOT was released, everyone recognised that as a great game, and many got an N64 because of it. The great games get people interested, this is no different.
