I'm sure there are more I'll kick myself for not remembering later, but you need some of those games. Especially the starred ones.

Ok here you go:-TLOZ: Wind Waker-Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door-Phantasy Star Online Ep. I & II-Pikmin & Pikmin 2-Chibi-Robo-Starfox Adventures [to continue, Starfox Assault]-Resident Evil Zero and RE 4-Soul Calibur II-TLOZ: Ocarina Of Time Master Quest [probably hard to find]-TLOZ: Collectors Edition-Mario Power TennisI think those are some of the GCs bests

Change Resident Evil 0 (which sucked really hard) to Resident Evil (which fucking rocked), add Beyond Good & Evil, and that'd pretty much be my list, really.

Yeah i still find REbirth (RE1) much better than Zero. Oh yeah TimeSplitter 2 is cool for multiplayer.

Alien Hominid
It's on other systems, just make sure you buy this game some system. If you have a 360 with Live, that has the version with most features and it's also the easiest to get a hold of.

Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2
Ikaruga (kind of hard to find)
F-Zero GX
Soul Caliber 2
Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door
Pikmin 1 and/or 2 (2 doesn't have time limits)
Animal Crossing
Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 & 3 (3 has a co-op mode of the entire 2nd game)

Games I haven't played but heard good things about:
Harvest Moon: Magical Melody (not A Wonderful Life)
Resident Evil 4
Zelda: Wind Waker
Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat
Luigi's Mansion

I didn't care for Metroid Prime. It's just not my kind of game. But you might like it. I think you'll like it if you like Zelda games (I don't care for those either).
If you're a big Sonic fan, get Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, but otherwise there's better stuff to buy.

I wouldn't worry about getting Super Smash Bros. Melee. I think Brawl will take the place of that.

obviously we want to narrow down these 30+ mentioned games to 10 or so. To criticise some of these games...
Jungle Beat uses a peripheral that you mightn't ever return to.
Viewtiful Joe was very hard, stylish, but not everyone's cuppa tea

VJ had a kids mode that wasn't anything for me, but it was still fun (and it's not like I'm some amazing player, I didn't finish NEW Super Mario Bros.).
I was afraid to play hard mode because everyone said it was so hard Smilie

while that may be true, the game is absolute class.

  • Ikaruga (if you don't have a Dreamcast).
  • TimeSplitters 2 and/or 3. I personally prefer #2 (maybe because I played it like a thousand hours), but #3 is just hilarious and fun Smilie.
  • Donkey Kong Jungle Beat : I really, really enjoyed this game, it's just brilliant. I bought mine from Play-Asia (JP version) for 5$ Smilie. You need a Freeloader and Bongos though.
  • Resident Evil 4.
  • Viewtiful Joe : I just can't see how you could not like it.
  • Baten Kaitos : Nobody mentioned it but I personally adore this game. One of the best RPGs I ever played (and I played many actually). It's not suited for everyone but if you get to like the card-based and fascinating battle system, you'll find a gorgeous game that is filled with so much beauty (music, graphics, ...) that you'll have to buy
  • Baten Kaitos Origins Smilie : Just as beautiful as the first one and even more since it erases the few flaws iBaten Kaitos had, and the new battle system is incredibly dynamic and exciting.
  • Skies of Arcadia Legends : Awesome RPG but I guess you'll have to be lucky if you want to get it at an affordable price...
  • Zelda The Wind Waker : I would almost call it perfect if it wasn't so short and if there wasn't that FUCKING Triforce Quest. You need this game, though.
  • Games I don't recommend :

  • Mario Kart Double Dash : I just hated it. Slow, not original in the slightest, and terribly boring.
  • Super Mario Sunshine : It's not "bad" but not good either, which is like being crap as far as a Mario game is concerned. Buy Mario 64 instead.
  • Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles : The music is awesome, the graphics are cute and very good looking, but it's ... boring.
  • Starfox Assault : There are some good Arwing stages but when you're on the ground with your crappy gun it's Smilie .

  • Concerning Alien Hominid, I played the flash version several times because I had read it was awesome but I always found it was a really average Metal Slug knockoff Smilie.

I agree with Shags, Donkey Kong Junglebeat is a class game, Bongo's or not. The same Tokyo team made Mario Galaxy. I paid

If you like anime and importing, Naruto 4 is essential. Best fighting game on 'Cube after SSBM, IMO. Battle Stadium D.O.N isn't bad either, though unlocking characters and stages is literally based on Luck, and the gameplay can feel like a clunky Smash Bros. And there aren't enough characters. Still good though. Smilie

oh, i forgot to mention Burnout 2, i know its also on other platforms but the extra crash mode tracks make it a worthwhile addition.

You know, you guys can recommend some really shit games.

    Less posty, more gamey.

    Star Wars Rogue Leader!

This game single handedly shed light on just how good the starwars franchise is.

I previously thought it was for nerds (sorry:rollSmilie

    But seriously, excellent game/graphics too.

Most of these games have already been mentioned but here is my list anyway!

    -Super Smash Bros. Melee
    -Super Mario Sunshine
    -Mario Smash Football
    -Paper Mario: TTYD
    -Mario Kart: Double Dash
    -Super Monkey Ball 2
    -Soul Calibur
    -Metroid Prime & MP 2
-Resident Evil, RE Zero & RE4
    -Time Splitters 2
    -Beyond Good & Evil
    -WarioWare INC
    -Viewtiful Joe & 2
    -Pikmin & 2
    -Capcom vs SNK 2EO
    -F-Zero GX
    -Mario Golf
    -Wave Race: Blue Zone
    -1080 Avalanche
-The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker & Twilight Princess
    -Strafox Adventure
-Star Wars: Rouge Squadron III Rebel Strike

This is all I can think so far, some of you might not agree, but I don't care! All of the above are awsome games in my eyes!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Rogue Squadron III??? The man wants gems, not boulders. What's wrong with you?

Disregard all of the above and get the following games:

    Resident Evil 4
    Wind Waker
    Pikmin 2
    Beyond Good & Evil
And I've heard Chibi-Robo is essential.

There are others, but they come with provisos (Double Dash if you've got friends, Jungle Beat if you can find it with bongos and cheap, Metroid if you like being really bored, etc). Otherwise I wouldn't worry too much unless you see something stupid cheap. People have listed some really really average stuff. I might sound like a prick but any true Sonic fan who's playing SA2:Battle is dying inside. And no-one would fly an X-Wing over swinging a lightsaber, given the choice.

And TAG, get RE4! You're not a complete person 'til you doSmilie

    Less posty, more gamey.

Oi, I have been enjoying the odd bit of SA2:B recently and it's not so bad.

Nothing wrong with me sonny, I dont know if you remember or not, but RSIII comes with a added bonus "Rouge Squadron II" ...Smilie So technically your getting 2 games in one!

I would recommend Lego Star Wars repeatedly over Factor 5's 'oh-look-everything's-so-pretty-that-we-forgot-to-put-anything-interesting-in' efforts.

'It's not so bad' - the very definition of 'gem'Smilie Come on, if the guy likes Sonic he can download 3 or 4 better Sonic games on the Virtual Console. Don't be pushing that dross on him!

    I feel loved.Smilie

By the way, i played sonic adventures 1&2 at my freinds house when i was in the second grade. Ever since then, i regretted having a ps2 rather than a gamecube, because all the awesome sonics were being remade on it. Now that i have a wii,i can go back and buy some of those titles. so...in a nutshell, i LOVE sonic,3d or side scroller.

btw, i havent even bought any of the games...yet. im still saving up. Choices!!!!!!!!SmilieSmilieSmilieSmilieSmilie

Better yet just get the Sonic Mega collection. Surely less than 20 bucks now.

    that is true. Good pointSmilie

    Conduit FC: 0431-6660-0908

    Starfox Adventures
    Twilight Princess

I didn't say it was a gem, but it's not as bad as you make out.

To give you a concise answer - the two for me that are absolutely essential due to their all-round brilliance but also their innovation:

Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4.
