Nintendo Wii/DS News | Mario & Sonic Bigger Than Halo 3? [news]

Hmmm, I'm not so sure really. Halo 3 is probably the biggest game coming to the 360 and will be THE system seller this year. I can see Mario & Sonic selling well aswell only because of casual interest. The game will probably be a little generic, ala Mario Party.

In Japan? If he's talking about anywhere else he's clearly insane. If he's not then yeah obviously...

It depends, because by November the Wii could have caught the 360's worldwide sales...

I reckon it could be close. Probably not on the Week Halo 3 comes out, but after that it has a good chance.

Some people are forgetting MGS4, also out this year, and also a 'system-seller'.

People you seem to forget that there are more MARIO & SONIC fans then there are HALO fans...

The game might not be AAA but people will buy just becuase it has MARIO & SONIC on the cover!

I guess being the first game with Sonic and Mario in together will make it sell very well.

Maybe.
But for utterly the wrong reasons.

If it was a proper mario/sonic combo game using the skills of both designers then it would well deserved do better then halo3.

As it stands, if it does beat it, it will just be due to mascots names alone, and no Nintendo fan should be proud of that.

MGS4, it will be a system seller to a slightly smaller group of people than the mainstream.

Have to admit though, I kinda forgot about this game.

According to VGChartz, Halo sold 6.43 million and Halo2 sold 8.21 million.

I don't expect Halo3 to sell that many _this_ year, but it will probably eventually sell more than Halo2 (assuming the 360 continues to outsell the original xbox like it has so far, and Halo3 is actually better than Halo2).

Of course, a lot of those 360 sales are probably replacements, considering how many "Red Rings" they're getting

It's all Sonic fans and all Mario fans buying this games (even if it's not a good game, the sum of both group of fans makes more than a million). If it is a great game, then that's two million, plus another million of casual gamers just buying it because it's on the Wii, then that's 3 and a half million copies of this game will be sold worldwide. Mark my words, hahaha... Or not.

PS: I hate this sales comparisons. I'm just buying one copy, so I don't care how many they sell. If the game is good, though, then I always hope it sells well since a sequel is more probable... oh well, I'm contradicting myself... I'm buying this game anyway.

LOL. I'm sorry but it will never be bigger than Halo 3. I think he's being a bit naiive in thinking that - would be nice though.

It could happen, but only because of sales to kids and casuals. It would win for all the wrong reasons. I won't be buying it anytime soon anyway, I'll be getting Brawl, Corruption and Galaxy (If it comes out).

I did not read the whole interview, but it surely does happen. In Japan.
Maybe elsewhere too, because Sonic and Mario are two franchises, that sell more games then there are are transistors on X-Box-core. Remember: All Marios combined sold more then or nearly as 500 Million units(!!!). Then there is Sonic, which sells - I guess - 40 Millions, then there's no problem selling more then Halo3.

Just why do you think an ordinary core game in third installment will outsell high all-stars-games, combined? Then there is Olympics. Olympic games sell like shit (don't know why, don't like them).
Ah, well. Maybe all Halo fans will slap me and outsell theoir game 6:1 to Mario and Sonic, who knows?
Problem with prediction is... prediction. These are numbers made from business men concerning creative titles. Occasionally (thanks to that!) they are wrong!

Mario & Sonic is something that all people of all ages will buy. Even if the game idea is a little generic party game-ish, a stupidly huge amount of people will have heard of Sonic & Mario, & their rivalry, nowadays it could be seen as ancient!

Anyway, that's why this game may not BE huge, but it's fated to SELL huge. Veterans who have lost interest in gaming since the SNES/MD days could well even buy a game like this, & Wii's/DS' growing popularity is bound to take it where it's going.

I highly doubt that M&S Olympics will beat Halo 3, in the first few weeks anyway. Nintendo/Sega will have to let the public know that M&S Olympics is coming with adverts and such.

Oh, if they make this game fun to have - we're looking at a new king to the Wii-Inviting throne [Wii-Sports being king as of now]. I mean - at the Olympics?! think of all the things that could mean are in this game - AND Sonic and Mario to boot?

Even if it is a "party" game - it has the sort of hype that even if is a "good" game rather than a "great" one - it will still sell tons.

-- but - picture if you will - it being as fun and inviting as Wii Sports is? if not better? - who here would really pass it up? That includes all of us - from the hardcore to the casual -

soo - its has a shot of rocking Halo 3's world - but thats not to say Halo 3 won't sell great - it sort of goes without saying. As most people stated - Halo 3's first week will shatter records most likely [which will again - be broken by Mario Galaxy!] and I'm def. getting it. But yeah.

So excited for both titles anyway!

True, and to add there will be a unparralled amount of publicity and advertisng for the game and the two characters before the Olympics start. It will surely sell well worldwide with that level of coverage. [LS]

Are people forgetting that New Super Mario Bros has sold more than Halo 2 did, so it is very much a possibility.

I think it might outsell it on the long run, but Halo 3 will sell the majority of it's units in the first month on release. M&S Olympics is one of the smartest moves SEGA have made in years.
