gamecube the only true video games console?

with the ps2 and xbox having more and more capabilities they are defeating the object of games consoles.
dvd players, internet access all these add-ons not needed.
sony and microsoft shouldn't need these to sell a console??? shouldn't it be quality games they need to sell a console???

True, Gamecube is an only games console, and a good one at that. The main advantage Nintendo could probably have is their quality reputable games. If you could name 5 games either Sony or Microsoft have produced internally, then I'll eat my shoe!

All consoles are good, but to many 'extras' make it a bit bland and boring.

All games consoles should consentrate on only one thing and that making good games.

games, games and more games. thats what all consoles should concentrate on not "ours can play dvd" etc etc........

That is the problem as i know many people that bought the PS2 just cause it plays dvds. They never play games on it.

i think that as long as a console can only play games online and not surf it's ok but dvds, hard drives and being able to listen to the s club juniors while putting 3 bullets through somebodys cereberal cortex with a 9mm h&k mp5 is all eerily reminiscent of pcs. the sad thing is that the GC is perhaps more similar to the computer because there are 2 versions, one with better features

i think that the hard drive is part of the online play as downloading levels is a nice touch and not to PC like.

Hard drives are probably the best invention in console gaming to come from MS. They're brilliant. No need for a memory card.

but then every time you go round a mates house who has the same console, wouldnt it be alot easier to take a memory card than ur whole system. Im not dissing hard drives, there great it just there not exactly pratical

Obviously, that's why you can also buy memory cards for the XBOX...

Sorry, I'm just in a bad mood. I thought it was obviously that having a hard drive would be better as long as you have memory cards. In the long run, having a hard drive is much better than having a memory card anyway. And, I will be willing to argue my case...

We seem to have lost what a GAMES CONSOLE is since the PlayStation era. You see its kind of given away in the name (games console). This is what they are, not DVD players or internet machines, not single standerd stripped down PC's, they are creatrive devices. XBOX is a multi media entertainment system (as is the PS2) GameCube is a pure gaming machine and Ninetendo should be appluaded for that. It is people like you the 'casual gamer' that have ruined the creative companies in this indusrty and dragged games like ICO, REZ and Animal Crossing into the catergory of 'stupid retard games'.

i have to say i havn't seen a string of games like nintendo's pulling right now since the snes!

GC is definately a console for real gamers, but microsoft has admitedly made quite a big impact on the market. dispite the fact that it takes half an hour to get it through the front door

Well i have always bought ninty consoles because of that exact reason. They make there consoles for GAMES. Not for little periferals

even so a dvd player persuades casual gamers

and gullible parents.

NO THEY SHOULD'T they are big companys than nintendo but with xbox live u have to have broadband but with nintendo u can have 56k but the prob with that is if your oppisition has 56k and u have blueyonder it will be alot easer to kick the a$$$ and as 4 p2s the internet will never even come out

Sorry, why will the internet never come out? PS2 has more confirmed online titles than Nintendo, and Nintendo's only confirmed title is crap.

Not at all. I don't think they're used to it at all, as the N64 was a sort of failure as it had the PSX for competition, and now this may head down that road as it has PS2 and XBOX for competition. Ninty also don't know how to advertise.

Nintendo. It is a great company and I really feel that it has some of the best quality games on it (not saying PS2 and XBOX don't) They put a lot of creativity in their games (AC) and are one of the most original companies. They have revoloutionised gaming as we know it. Heck they basically invented gaming! Its even a feature in CUBE mag...
