Indie outfit Dakko Dakko has announced a new Nintendo Wii U eShop exclusive project called Scram Kitty And His Buddy On Rails.
As the title suggests, it features this kitty character and as the player, it's up to you to take on the role of the "Buddy on Rails" as you venture into a world with "rewarding game mechanics and whimsical characters". The game is described as a mix of "fast-paced shooting gameplay with a unique rail-riding platformer".
Whilst there aren't any screenshots/footage so far, the concept revolves around the GamePad and TV screen - where Scram Kitty lives on the TV and links to the GamePad . It's here that the Buddy character can "send items across in order to progress".
Eurogamer likens the game to "a little like Smash TV getting together for a playful tea party with Jet Set Radio."
The project and studio is being lead by Rhodri Broadbent, a chap who previously worked at Q-Games and helped put together Star Fox Command for the Nintendo DS. Since then Broadbent produced projects for PlayStation Mini. He's also a rather big fan of Nintendo.
But why Nintendo Wii U, and exclusively?
Dakko Dakko considered XBLA and PSN, but wanted to try something different and the Wii U is the platform of choice. Broadbent also expressed his confidence in Nintendo's new console - it's about finding the game that will sell the system to the masses, he feels.
For any of the new platforms to really fail requires a shift in humans that I'm not aware of yet, in terms of people not wanting good content. The 3DS showed quite clearly that if you say this machine has a new Mario, and it's got this and this and this... In Japan last year the 3DS had an amazing year, and if they start translating that sort of excitement to other platforms then I absolutely believe not just in Wii U but in the grand console future.
Dakko Dakko are aiming to launch the game this year on the Nintendo Wii U eShop.
What do you think of the Scram Kitty And His Buddy On Rails for Wii U concept?
