Capcom Confirms Mega Man 9 as WiiWare Exclusive
Recent News
Capcom have recently confirmed Mega Man 9 as a Wiiware exclusive.
The game came to light last week via Nintendo Power, donning 8-bit graphics in honour of the NES classics. Complete with 8-bit inspired tunes, level design and control, the game aims to follow in the footsteps of the original outings in design and presentation.
The company hadn't noted whether it would become available on other downloadable networks, including Microsoft and Sony's efforts.
Now, Ars Technica has confirmed the game as a current WiiWare exclusive from Capcom themselves.
Thanks to GoNintendo for the tip.

Evan, Jr.I'm glad this is a Nintendo exclusive, given Mega Man's roots on the NES and this game's graphical style matching the NES games.( Edited 01.07.2008 13:31 by samus_boy )

tendothis is bitter/sweet news. it's capcom guys, CAPCOM! remember the 5 (or was it 7) exclusives for the GameCube, look what happened to that.
if anything, i see this game making a later appearance on XBL Arcade.
i hope i am wrong though.

Very true - it's bound to make an apperance on some machine/download system or other eventually. Will probably see a portable release too imo.

noneGuys, I have to disagree with you guys on this. I doubt if Capcom will port Megaman 9 to any other console. it's 8 bit, the graphics style, therefore there will be no added effect from porting it to the HD consoles just added expense. Secondly porting the game to a handheld would involve even more expense such as marketing, box art, and other expenses associated with a retail product.
This is going to be a Wii exclusive. The HD consoles get Bionic Commando Rearmed. Which is not going to be developed for the Wii.( Edited 01.07.2008 16:26 by patjuan32 )

noneNow does Capcom mean exclusive or "exclusive"?
As in Viewtiful Joe exclusive? Or Resident Evil 4 exclusive? Or... ack... I guess I'm still upset about that.
Still, this is awesome news. I can't wait. lol

I have to disagree with you patjuan32. Did you forget the Megaman Collection game that was released on all the console systems and GBA a few years back? And they did that update for the PSP to give them some of the original Megaman love with updated graphics and content. It, IMO, IS just a matter of time before it ends up on the other two consoles.

noneGlenjamin,
Those were good examples but I still have to disagree with you. I really do not see Capcom updating the graphics of the game for the HD systems. Secondly, if capcom was going to port Megaman 9, why would they announce it as a Wiiware exclusive. It would be more beneficial to announce the game for all platforms. After all Capcom is a multiplatform developer. They've never previously announced that they were making a Megaman game for the Wii. Therefore Capcom is not obligated to have Megaman 9 as a Wii exclusive or a timed exclusive. As I stated before, they could have announced the game for all Home consoles. They did not. Instead Megaman 9 was announced as a Wii exclusive. I see no reason to think otherwise.
