    Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

    Kirby has carved out a very large following over the years since his first ever game back towards the end of the NES’ lifespan. Soon enough any game with the pink puffball’s name attached easily sold millions around the world and thus all eyes were obviously on the character’s 3D début on the Nintendo 64 following the massive success of Super Mario 64. However, HAL took a slightly different route than expected, keeping closer to Kirby’s traditional 2D side-scrolling roots than anyone expected. Was the choice a wise one, was that old magic still ever-present in this home console update, and should gamers consider splashing out 1,000 Wii Points on it now the game has reached the Virtual Console?

    Panel de Pon became somewhat of a classic on the Super Famicom over in Japan during the 1990s, but was only a minor hit when brought to the West as Tetris Attack, complete with a new Yoshi theme, and also struggled at the end of the GBA’s lifespan when re-launched on the same cartridge as Dr. Mario as plain Puzzle League with no characters. Its greatest success came on the Nintendo 64 back at the height of the Pokémon craze when Nintendo slapped Ash, Pikachu and company’s mugs on the product to move extra copies. In Europe, though, it came too late in the N64’s lifetime to make much of an impact on the charts. Now said game has a second chance via the Virtual Console for just the equivalent of £7.50, should gamers make sure to not miss out this time round?

    The Nintendo 64 suffered a disappointing fate of dying off before it had seen the release of many of its greatest games. Therefore, as a result, sales of games such as Perfect Dark, Conker's Bad Fur Day and Paper Mario failed to reach the heights they deserved. But it also meant that certain games never made their planned moves from Japan to the Western world. One such game was Nintendo/Treasure's Sin & Punishment. Read on to see what you initially missed out on, but can now grab on Virtual Console in Europe...
